Product Description

Made in 1944 this ghostly comedy is set at Chunduyt Court, one of "Stately Homes Of England". when a bomb falls on the house it opens an old coffin releasing some 400 yr-old manuscripts ..and the ghost of a former Lord of the manor. Complications soon arise as a young lawyer (Richard Greene, - The Sword Of Sherwood Forest), joins a conducted tour and is smitten by the current Lord's daughter. Quite rare, it's being presented here as part of The BRITISH CLASSICS COLLECTION.

A ghostly story, with a touch of romance and some plain fun!

The landed gentry aren't having a good time of things; the country seat is falling down, the telephone bill needs paying, the boiler was probably designed by James Watt and to top it all, the lodger in the gatehouse is a right old humbug!

Along comes an archaeologist, who falls in love with the daughter of the Earl of Chaunduyt and together they decide to do some research. However, a bomb (it was war-time) releases an ashamed ghost (the 3rd Earl of Chaunduyt) after 400 years and he is determined to see that the rightful claimant to the title is made known.

A dispute about dogs and cows in the garden, a few drinking bouts and a court where the star witness is a ghost!! Everything hinges around the surname "Bucket" and it is this that will ultimately determine the fate of all those concerned.

It's just a bit of silly fun! Nothing noteworthy, but it isn't a drag and it's very lighthearted. I'll give it the "thumbs up"!
