What should have been the album to end all albums instead turned out to be a rather insipid collection of cover songs and, whilst that was bad enough, the situation could have been salvaged had Quo come out all guns blazing, rocking the house down like they used to in the 70's and early 80's.
Unfortunately, with the lackluster effort and poor production that seems to have gone into 'Don't Stop', the album was well and truly sunk.
The only songs worth mentioning here are 'Fun Fun Fun' (with the Beach Boys), 'Get Out Of Denver' and the title track - none of which are a patch on the classic Quo releases of the 70's. Indeed, if you play this straight after the likes of 'Hello' or 'Piledriver', you can tell immediately how far the quality has dropped!
I have to admit that I don't like cover albums as a rule anyway, but if anybody could have made it work, it would have been Quo. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way.
Worst of all, the album got to No 2 and so, following the relative failure of their recent albums of original material, it just made a covers follow up inevitable. Little did I know then that that would turn out to be even worse than ever.
