to the final scene.A very well cast movie with Michael Douglas playing a top psychiatrist Dr.Nathan Conrad, Famke Janssen his wife ,a precocious child actress, Sean Bean being a particularly nasty robber and Brittany Murphy as a teen diagnosed as suffering from PTSD and locked within herself.Basically Bean and his team recently released from prison kidnap Douglas' daughter using her as the pawn in the game they draw Douglas into where they want him to use his skills to obtain a number from Murphys memory given to her when she was a child by her father who was originally a member of Beans robbery team who double-crossed them.He has to do this to get his child back. You may think you've been here before but this is a well directed film by Gary Fleder and produced by veterans the Kopelsons. The extras are interesting in themselves.I never believe in saying too much unlike some reviewers who write 50 plus line reviews, giving away all the films secrets.

In the main this is entertaining despite a few glaring plot holes. Douglas is solid, Sean Bean is quietly menacing but for me Brittany Murphy is excellent as the traumatized mental patient at the heart of the story.
Good solid performances from the peripheral actors help the plot along.
All in all a worthy, tense film that is surprisingly satisfying even allowing for the odd inconsistencies to the plot. Recommended.

an incredibly entertaining film. michael douglas gets better with age, and plays an excellent part as a senior pschiatrist. the film is fast moving. a girl has been admitted to his psychiatric facility who holds the key to a number being sought after by baddies who are holding douglas' daughter hostage, and watching his and his wife's every move. a tense thriller, enjoyable throughout, with a conclusion that is both clever and unexpected.

When I saw this film in the video store I straight away thought it looked like a good film. When I actually watched the film it more than lived up to my expectations.
Although the plot was fairly complicated, it made perfect sense.
I don't mean to be bitchy, but I disagree strongly with the review written by the person in Fife, Scotland, who thinks that the film is too "far-fetched" and would never really happen. Firstly, who wants to watch a film about everyday stuff that happens all the time? A film in which the plot involves the "daily life of a shop assistant" for example, would not be very interesting viewing now would it? Secondly, people who think that the film is too far removed from reality should read the newspaper more often. Fact is stranger than fiction and if you think weird and disturbing things never happen perhaps you live a very sheltered life.
The film is well acted and believeable. The six digit number that Michael Douglas' character must "extract" from the mind of Brittany Murphy's character, is not just a random number, but one that the kidnapper needs to know for a real reason.
My advice, watch the film and enjoy, it is one of the best thrillers you will see.

Amazing acting by Brittany Murphy turns a fairly average thriller into a good movie. Plot has holes large enough to drive a truck through, but a Douglas in good shape with an oustanding supporting cast makes it throughly enjoyable. Recommended for fans of psychological thrillers.

I am not normally a fan of Michael Douglas, but add Sean Bean to the mix I thought i'd give it a go. It is a very tense thriller with plenty of action. Also keeps you on the edge of your seat. A brilliant film that I would recommend (and already have) to anyone.
