Review

"Stuffed with terrifying tales of juvenile crime. Frightening but fascinating."
-- "USA Today
"Should be required reading for anyone who cares about law and order: how it has been undermined and what can be done to fix it."
-- "New York Daily News
"She makes advocates of Tough Love look like marshmallow liberals...Pithy and opinionated, with many real-life case histories, this book is an eye-opener for the politically left and an 'All Right!' cheer for the right."
-- "Publishers Weekly

Product Description

Judy Sheindlin, former supervising judge for Manhattan Family Court has, for 24 years, laid down the law as she understands it: if you want to eat, you have to work; if you have children, you'd better support them; if you break the law, you have to pay; if you tap the public purse, you'd better be accountable. She abandons all judicial restraint in a scathing critique of the system, filled with hard-nosed alternatives to what she perceives as the US' bloated welfare bureaucracy and soft-on-crime laws.

Action not excuses 4 Sep 2007
Format:Paperback
Law abiding people know something is radically wrong with the justice system in the UK. Judge Judy confirms what all sane people intuitively know - that softness encourages anti-social behaviour. What I learned is that We, the observers, can't sit back and expect "Them" to do something. Take responsibiilty. Ask questions. Ask awkward questions. Then ask more awkward questions.

I have read and re-read this book numerous times. I admire Judge Judy's courage to offer this indictment of a system that allows those who do not work to profit from the tax dollars of those who do. Judge Judy supplies countless examples of the abuses of taxpayer funds, and while I found the book entertaining for the judge's blunt, tell-it-as-it-is style, I was also disturbed at the fleecing of taxpayers that takes place at the hands of welfare recipients and social service agencies.

I read the book Don't Pee on My Leg and Tell Me It's Raining. It was very enlightening. If I were a welfare recipient, I would have found more ways to bilk the system I was unaware of. The Kinship programs were something I have never heard of, because in my family, if you have a child, you raise that child. You work for a living, and you pay for your mistakes. I get so tired of people getting a free ride at my expense. I see it everyday, and just like Judge Judy, I'm tired of seeing... I'm tired of coming home from work to find all the neighborhood kids running over, after all, mommy has been having to put up with them all day, so why not sent them here, to bother me who was working all day. I'm tired of seeing welfare recipients in grocery lines, that have two carts full of brand names I can't afford, and things like steak, and all the snacks they can get. I would hope everyone would read this book, and feel the same way I do, but chances are, some of the readers will be bilkers of the system. They will be outraged that someone has questioned them. I wish there could be some swift reforms to make people stop playing victims, and start taking responsibility for their lives.
