Review 5 May 2010
Format:Paperback
I found this book heavily interesting. It brakes up the chapters by countries and then goes into detail and background information about the country in terms of culture and of course stereotypes and how some of them came about and rather they seem to still apply today. The author also goes around interviewing/talking to various people in the country that he is visiting and gives you an idea of what the locals think of their own country which I found to be quite imformative and intriguing to read. Great book overall and I'd recommend this book to anyone whose interested learning about some of the European cultures with a bit of history thrown in as well.

A grand pick for anyone who wants to truly understand the people of modern Europe 17 April 2010
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
'The French are cowards', 'the Swiss are neutral', it's all said over and over again, but where lies the truth? "Don't Mention the Wars: A Journey Through European Stereotypes" is a memoir of Tony Connelly traveling through Europe and recording his own experiences and studies of the people. From Spain warring against itself, the pursuit of American women, and Germany's love of conflict, Tony Connelly presents a good deal of insight through his writing and how while globalization has brought the world together, the French will always remain the French. "Don't Mention the Wars" is a grand pick for anyone who wants to truly understand the people of modern Europe.
