Product Description

Raised by vegetarian hippies on an organic produce farm, Abbie Greenwood wants to save the world. But the L.A. TV station where she works as a consumer reporter won’t let her do the globally important stories she wants to do, and now the “guys upstairs” are suggesting she mix a little of “the nasty” into her helping-people segments to raise the—already high—ratings. Afraid the TV biz is going to suck out her soul, Abbie agrees to take all the time-off she’s saved and housesit for her sister in the suburbs of Houston where conservatism and good barbequing skills are highly rated. But, it will give her time alone to re-evaluate her life, or, at least, give the “guys upstairs” time to see how ratings plummet without her.
Once in Houston, Abbie causes a raucous with a column she guest-writes for her sister’s neighborhood newsletter and butts heads with the president of the homeowner’s association from across the street. Rick’s a real hunk (yum!) of a lawyer (yuck!) who drives a fancy pickup (wasting natural resources), is an ex-rodeo cowboy (too macho, but kinda hot) and has been known to vote conservatively on occasion (dead faint). Unfortunately, he’s also irresistible and available since his wife took off, leaving him with their six-year-old daughter.

After some malicious neighborhood mischief followed by a hot encounter in his kitchen, Abbie decides she’d better stay away or this guy could change her life in a way she never thought she wanted. But when her volunteer job, teaching English as a Second Language, gets her arrested on suspicion of smuggling illegal aliens, who is the only emergency contact her sister left? Mr. Hunky-Annoying-Across-the-Street-Lawyer, of course. And as Abbie feels herself getting “sucked in” by Rick, she realizes life’s decisions aren’t always as black and white as she’d like them to be.

More About the Author

Readers: NO MORE MR. NICE GIRL is now available! I'm currently working on my first series. Visit NinaCordoba.com Contact page and be the first to see excerpts and be notified of future releases.

Bio:
Since my parents left their Texas/Louisiana homes to find adventure in California, that's where I was born. We eventually moved to Texas, but as a native Californian, I still qualify to use words like "vibe" and "aura" without ridicule.

I'm known for my sense of humor and my annoying habit of turning everything into a song. As a child, I dreamed that someday, I'd be in a place and start singing and everyone around me would burst into song spontaneously with me. In my 40's, I found a soul mate who is a natural musician. He and my musically talented step-son make my dreams come true by jumping in and singing, humming or duh-duh-duhing along with anything from classical to rock. My teenage daughter eggs us on, participates, or simply jumps in to correct mis-sung lyrics, depending on her mood.

My writing inspirations are my parents, who married outside their cultures and found great fun and humor in celebrating people's differences, my college roommates from Central America who made me aware of the "Latin-ness" in my heart, and my ESL students.

I've taught English to adult students from all over the world. Their stories have been an inspiration to me. I started teaching ESL just before my mother died. I cried constantly for a year and the only time I could forget her tragic death was when I was teaching my classes.

Then one night, after a lifetime of writing journalistic and marketing materials and teaching, I started writing a novel, then I wrote another and another.

I love to hear from readers! At NinaCordoba.com, you can contact me, see a listing of my books, read humorous (true story) blog posts, and sign up to be notified of new releases. I also interact often on my Nina Cordoba Facebook friend page.

Big hugs,
Nina

5.0 out of 5 stars Who Doesn't Love Brownies? 8 Sep 2011
By Joan Reeves - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'll tell you right from the beginning: stock up on brownies or something chocolate before you settle down to read DON'T MAKE ME MAKE YOU BROWNIES, the book with the wittiest title I've seen in a long time. When I read that title, I immediately clicked the BUY button.

I predict Nina Cordoba, and her books, will become very popular with readers. I know that I adored this book, and I think you will too.

THE STORY

What do you get when you add a heaping helping of sexual desire to a mismatched couple composed of a pickup-scorning, California-liberal TV consumer reporter and a Texas-cowboy/lawyer?

You get a delightful novel of contradictions, conflicts, and, ultimately, compromises as Abbie and Rick learn that if they want something bad enough -- like the love that grows between them -- then they must blaze their own trail and create a world that works for them. After all, isn't that what we all do when we love someone who holds different attitudes and opinions about the external world?

This fish-out-of-water story has some parts that are downright hilarious. There are times when you want to tell Abbie: "Oh, for heaven's sakes! Grow up." But that just means the author did her job and created a character who elicits a strong reaction in the reader.

Never fear. Abbie grows and changes in ways that are believable and organic to her. That, dear readers, is what allows her to get her very own happy ending, enabling her to stay who she is, and, yet, be more than she was at the beginning of the story.

Although, this is a romantic comedy, you won't find very much "on screen" sex scenes or romance for that matter. The love scenes are more edgy and comical than sexy and romantic, but that's okay for this romance cum chick lit that will keep you turning the pages to the very end.

I've already looked for other books by Nina Cordoba and now have her other book NOT DREAMING OF YOU to enjoy.

I give DON'T MAKE ME MAKE YOU BROWNIES an unequivocal 2 thumbs up. I've moved it to my KEEPER COLLECTION on my Kindle.

5.0 out of 5 stars I would make this hero brownies everyday!! 29 Aug 2011

Abbie hates trucks and people who put biodegradable things in non-biodegradable plastic garbage bags. The one type of person she hates more are lawyers.

Rick is the complete opposite of Abbie. He drives a big gas guzzling truck, bags his grass clippings and is a lawyer.

What could these two possibly have in common? What ensues is a laugh out loud romance. I literally laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes. Nina Cordoba's writing is fresh, feisty and sassy. After reading her two books she has automatically become an auto buy author for me. Looking forward to her next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Heat is On! 13 Aug 2011
By Jennifer Bray-weber - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
What a fun read!

Abbie endears as she muddles her way through her overbearing, barnstorming humanitarian and environmentalist ideals, her sheer terror of soul-sucking, baby-making droids called housewives, and her romantic feelings for the irresistible hunk that taunts everything she believes in. Hilarity ensues as all her problems seem much easier to digest with a box of brownie mix.

Rick, the level-headed, and ever patient, Southern boy, made my heart melt as he bailed Abbie out of one tangle after another, but only far enough to keep her squirming knee-deep in her messes and leaving her hot, bothered, and freaked out by what could be. Little by little he chips away her obstinacy in laugh-out-loud moments.

I enjoyed watching Abbie and Rick face off. The sexual tension between this unlikely pair heats up and I couldn't help but cheer them on. From the battle in the war room (AKA the Home Owner's Association meeting) to the final bikini-clad, mower-pushing showdown on Rick's front lawn, their fun story tickled my funny bone.

Nina Cordoba's unique, snarky humor will have you laughing for more. I can't wait to read what this author bakes up next.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Instant Classic 3 Oct 2011
By William Simon - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
In the interests of full disclosure, I'll say right up front I've known Nina Cordoba for several years. I'll also admit I am hardly a Women's Book/Chick-Lit reader; mysteries, thrillers, conspiracies are more my style. However, she hooked me with this one from the title alone many moons ago, and now that it's finally available, I could not resist it.

A rollicking, funny-as-hell romp about battling the changes coming in her life, wiggling on the hook, checking to make sure the running shoes are on, squirming and hollering and yelling every inch of the way, falling for everything she cannot stand, Abbie will indeed steal your heart. She'll make you laugh out loud along the way, too. Have to give Rick credit for a bottomless well of patience, the other characters are recognizable without being cliched, but Abbie is the one that will steal your heart and linger in your mind.

3.0 out of 5 stars Your semi-typical chick lit 5 Dec 2011
By Jessica - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was looking for an inexpensive easy reader when I ordered this for my Kindle and that's what I got. The story/outcome is typical of what you'd expect--with the addition of explicit detailed bedroom activities (not shy of a trashy romance novel-I did not mind this but some may). It's nicely written but you will want to punch Abbie in the face at some points...I mean, here's this perfect man at her fingertips and she's whiney and complicated. However, it was a cute little story. Not one that moved me to recommend it to all of my friends while I was reading it but not a complete waste of $3.
