5.0 out of 5 stars John Lynam - Staffs - England 27 July 2005
Format:Audio CD
Lucie Silvas is for me without equal as a singer/songwriter. This fourth single release, which is the storming opening track taken from the album Breathe In, is in my opinion only bettered by What You're Made Of,which is an outstanding song on an exceptional album. Don't Look Back is a master class display of Lucie's powerful, emotion laden vocal talent and lyrical skills. The upbeat tempo and catchy chorus make you want to sing along everytime.I was so entranced upon first listening I repeatedly played this song when I bought the album without progressing to another track for over an hour. The second track is an acoustic version of Breathe In and is, and this may be controversial opinion, better than the original. Without the upbeat music the emphasis changes to a more dark, forlorn and pessimistic tone and transforms it into a completely new song. The extra depth and dimension it provides has to be heard to be believed and appeciated. Whilst the original is a great song I've always found the upbeat tempo at odds with the sentiment of the lyrics. Lucie and her songs excel in an acoustic setting and I'd love to hear an acoustic version of the whole Breathe In album.

Don't Look Back is a master class display of Lucie's powerful, emotion laden vocal talent and lyrical skills. The upbeat tempo and catchy chorus make you want to sing along everytime you hear it. I was so entranced upon first listening I repeatedly played this song when I bought the album without progressing to another track for over an hour. The acoustic version of Twisting the Chain gives the song a whole new dimension, extra depth and new found meaning. Its agonised, emotionally crippled sentiment seems to come alive without the accompanying background music and proves once again that the true measure of how good a song really is, is when it stripped down to just vocals and a guitar or piano. The third track Better Love Next Time (demo) is nothing short of excellent and I look forward to it appearing on the next album with a few more layers of sound. Having said that Lucie and her songs excel in an acoustic setting and I'd love to hear an acoustic version of the whole Breathe In album.

The video is once again a striking visual interpretation and representation of the song. I'd prefer a DVD version rather than a PC version. I'm sure we can look forward to a DVD with all the singles video's and a concert performance in due course.
