Isaac Hayes was one of music industry's true super stars in the first part of the 70's but fell on some hard times in the late 70's and the hits dried up. "Don't Let Go", his 1979 effort for Polydor, put him back on the map. At the time of the album's release, Disco was fading so Hayes was smart enough to release a wonderful R&B effort which offered the best of what Hayes did so well. The title track became a massive cross-over hit, hitting the Top 20 of the Billboard Top 40 Pop chart, as well as a becoming a Disco classic. No one told Isaac Hayes that great dance music was dead as his rendition of FEVER also became a favorite amongst DJ's in the clubs.
However, it is when Hayes slows down the pace that this set truly shines. "What Does It Take" is a stunning ballad, while "A Few More Kisses To Go" is a spine tingling late night romantic R&B slow jam perfectly suited for Hayes. "Someone Who Will Take The Place Of You" is another slow burn winner, as is the previously un-released "You Can't Hold Your Woman", which is included here as a bonus track. These ballads are true masterpieces and are as good as anything Hayes has released during his hot streaks at the beginning if the 70's.
As is always the case with a BBR re-master, this one is a winner. The title track and "A Few More Kisses To Go" are also included here in their 12' versions as well as the single versions as bonus tracks, in addition to the original album versions. The sound is incredible, the liner notes are as always informative and interesting and the original album cover art is preserved. Another great job by BBR.
