The slowburn career of Ms. Sproule continues with this release containing more songs about the joy of alcohol and the starry eyed wonder of being in love in Virginia on a warm Summer evening.

Backed by her excellent touring band (including the sublime B J Cole) and the multi-instrumental talents of husband Paul Curreri, Devon Sproule stretches her wings to encompass a gentle reggae swing on the first track, smokey blues for 'You need a Maria' and jazz inflected folk on 'The Easier Way'. She saves a surprise for near the end of the LP, with a non-reggae cover of Black Uhuru's 'Sponji Reggae', transforming it into a gentle lullabye - lovely.

No great surprises, just a gentle increase in the genius level as she remains the most expressive singer of her generation.

This woman should be feted across the globe. She is both a poet and a very fine musician. If you get the chance to see her and her equally talented husband live, then do so. Or buy her latest album. Or both. Best do both...
