Oasis - Don't Go Away
A Japanese import that makes me wonder if Oasis ever intended on releasing this as a single in the UK, or did the fact that Be Here Now came in for outstanding stick from highly expecting critics put them off? In my opinion, Be Here Now is a good album, the only thing that made it seem bad was over expectation.
But this review isn't about that. Don't Go Away is proof that Be Here Now does contain some gems. Arguably the best song on that album if it weren't for the fact I preferred the louder It's Gettin' Better (Man! ).
A live version of Cigarettes & Alcohol is included. I originally hated this song for some misguided teenage reason, and yet when I hear it now, I just can't help yelling! This live version conveys that exact emotive response. An old song from Noel, Sad Song, is included. I had always been looking for a copy of this song because I think it is one of Noel's best songs.
Perhaps the most eye opening aspect of the single is the Warchild version of Fade Away. This is the most Beatlefied track from Oasis I have heard and a total make over from the original shouty brash version. A sort of Yellow Submarine you could say.
