What an inspired comeback. This is a rushing, breathy ride of a ballad. If the album is as good as this single, I'm buying one for all my friends.
It has pop, it has synth, it's electro, it's got dramatic pause and a voice as luscious as black cherry. If the Sugababes had been able to evolve and mature, they might have written this song.
This is the 1st single off Siobhan's forthcoming album "Ghosts."
Don't Give It Up is an eastern styled electro-ballad similar in style to Madonna's Ray Of Light album. It has a beautiful uplifting chorus with soaring vocals.
"Don't give it up,
I heal and hide
Forgive this hurt of mine.
We all have the scars
To show"
The video was filmed in Morocco and complements the song perfectly! Siobhan is a talent to watch out for!
What with Parlophone abandoning Jamelia to the wolves of second rate touring productions of West End musicals, they've turned their attention to original Sugababe, Siobhan Donaghy. Quite brave really, considering how her first solo album stiffed a few years back.
And what an odd tune to come back with! There's no real chorus, it drifts all over the place in mad Kate Bush stylee and takes several listens to get into. Summat the evil emteevee generation don't seem to have the patience for. But it's worth persevering, as it slowly reveals layers of pleasure. The B-side 'Givin' In' is also a drifter which may mean that host album "Ghosts" is not going to be chock full of party anthems.
But it should be worth it if these tasters are anything to go by, and it's a big welcome back to the delicious Ms Donaghy.
