A great book for anyone who wants to live life to the fullest 9 Jun. 2010

I am not a golfer, but I saw Gary Player being interviewed and discussing this book in a TV interview and I had to order a copy. This is not a book about golf, but rather about winning, overcoming, controlling your nerves and living life to the fullest. Some of my favorite quotes by Gary Player from the book include the following:
" When the body fails or becomes weary, and that shot into the howling gale seems impossible, it is the mind that enables the player to pull it off.......
This book is a story of my mind...
So the conclusion that I have come to is that a player has no greater asset on the golf course than the power of his mind.'''''
The mind is what makes you, a superstar, and what your mind feeds on is what determines the outcome."

This is a great book for anyone who wants to be a champion in any activity of life. Gary Player reminds me of one of my favorite mind/body trainers from the 19th century Alois P. Swoboda who's students of his "Conscious Evolution Course"included US Presidents, Supreme Court Justices and leaders in all branches of Government and Industry. Harry Houdini, and bodybuilder Charles Atlas were also Swoboda Students.

This is a great book.

Training Your Mind to Win Not Choke 8 Oct. 2010
By rodboomboom - Published on

Player certainly is qualified to write on such a topic of choking. He demonstrated over decades a winning attitude despite not being the largest of golfers, but mentally one of the toughest. He writes: If you put Watson's (Tom) head on Norman's body, Norman would've won six Majors." He contends: "choking is not something that just suddenly happens. It's a gradual process of negative thinking that eventually manifests itself under pressure. And for this reason it can be overcome by training your mind in a positive process."

So this book presents this training lessons from Player's marvelous career, both on the regular and Senior tours. The art and photos are fantastic and the pithy advice of Player are profound, e.g. "instead of sitting there worrying about my four-shot lead, I was doing something positive and practicing." Funny about this incident involving putting in his hotel room Sunday evening and tennis great Jack Kramer knocks and wants to know what all the sound is about.

Nerves can be strengthened like muscles, Player argues: "there is no disgrace in your nerve not being that strong to start with."

A great resource for training one's nerves to win.

This book was such a great read. Being a younger man, I did not know too much about Gary Player and all his accomplishments. He really is a great competitor and this book was a total success. I was hooked on it and couldn't put it down. Recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning about Gary Player and his accomplishments and/or a competitor who is interested in succeeding in business as well as LIFE!!
