Donna Thomson was born in South Africa in 1953 and came back with her British family to live in the UK when she was six years old. She has had a successful career in the arts - but it is her passion for teaching and learning that has remained her main focus over the last 23 years.
She is an educational writer and reading comprehension specialist who is also founder of the not-for-profit research, development and education resources company, Think2Read (www.think2read.com).
Donna's explicit comprehension resources have been devised to provide teachers and parents with the essential steps that help young children to independently apply comprehension skills and questioning techniques to understand text and images in-depth as they read.
Donna began researching into effective ways of developing early comprehension skills and child-led group enquiry in 2001. The books and online Think2Read school programmes that have grown out of this research have since been successfully implemented by hundreds of UK schools and her approach is endorsed by the National Literacy Trust.
The following books based on Think2Read's teaching methods have accumulated sales of over 30,000 copies and 'Quick Fix for Year Six - Comprehension' by Donna Thomson & Ruth Nixey was shortlisted for the ERA Awards in 2007.
