This 2005 album is, I think, the second from Absentee. I listened to it after having heard some of Dan Michaelson's solo work and wanting to hear more of his unique voice and writing.

It's an excellent album. It takes a wry, cynical look at life, inverting the traditional love song and talking about the way most people really feel. Lyrically there is an eye for everyday detail and a sense of humour that ether makes you smile or think. Centre stage is Dan Michaelson's voice, that deep, craggy moan that sounds perpetually world weary. He's a great singer, totally unique. The rest of the band are no slouches either, and a decent album of music ranging form slower, bluesier numbers to some up-tempo rockers result, played with precision and imagination.

A good album. Perhaps not as well rounded as some of their later efforts, with some raw edges, but a great listen all the same. And, to be honest, at 6 tracks it's a little short. The music is so good that you just want more! 4 stars.

At the time of writing there is no track listing, so here it is:

01 - Rainy Days Swimming
02 - Something to Bang
03 - My dead wife
04 - In the Toilets, again
05 - On The Hallway
06 - Heather's Golden Shoulder

This mini album reeks of old cold cigarettes and yesterday's booze, it's that group you saw for free in a dodgy backroom club that you never hear of again, you can't even remember their name cos you were way too drunk but it sounded a bit like a head on collision between Mazzy Star's bus and a moped with a sidecar carrying Stuart Staples and Nick Cave. They mark you forever.
Glorious.

This must be 1 of the best albums to be released in years!
After seeing the bad live I simply could not wait to get their debut album.
And what a debut it is!!!!!!!
My favourite has to be track 5 with "on the hallway" Dan's super deep voice completes the song a treat.
5* - no this one definatley has to be 24 carot gold.
