This recording is of the French edition of Lucia, some bits are missing(Regnava nel Silenzio)and in their place other arias(in Regnavas case alovely aria, once recorded by Sutherland)The opera seems fuller, and more dramatic in this edition, you get to know why she is so nervous(big bully brother)and the role of her brother is more fully set out.Do not worry the big set pieces are here(sextet, madscene etc)beautifully recorded, highly recommended to all Lucia fans.

I never ever imagined this was going to be sooo good!!! 30 Jan. 2014

I actually got it on a bargain store, I was even able to listen before purchase. I read before that this was a shortened version. Well maybe is 15 minutes shorter que la Sutherland/Pavarotti/Bonynge one. but Dessay is one of the best Lucias ever, comparable with Sutherland, Sills, Gruberova or Studer. Edgardo is sung by in plenitude voice shape Alagna. It has nothing to envy to any of the best Lucias ever recorded. someone will mention Callas. well I don't Callas is a brute force singer, that's why she was only able to sing for 15 years or so. I recommend it a lot as every singer & director, gives their personal touch making the recordings different from the others. This one adds the fact that is in French. i'm a belcanto lover, from Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini, Meyerbeer Paer, Mercadante, Vaccai & even Mozart & Verdi up to Traviata. I love fire works when singing. I have hundreds of Belcanto opera recordings, only 5 or 6 are live recordings. y collect the Opera Rara recordings too. I can tell the difference betwen a good & a bad recording. this is first class. Very recomendable
