Format: Paperback
Don McCullin was a world renowned war photographer. His work has been seen on gallery walls, documentaries and books for some time.

This Photofile book is more of an introduction to this man, than a detailed description of his life and works. It is essentially, ideal for those not familar with McCullin, but want to see a collection of his work in one small book.

The Photofile is introduced by McCullin who discusses a little about his work. The images within, are very well presented. There is little text to accompany the images, but the images are powerful enough. They give an insight into his work in the squalor of poor families living in Bradford, to homeless gents living on the streets of London. It also covers his photographic work around conflict, such as Northern Ireland, Beirut and Vietnam.

The Photofile also reveals some little known landscape work of McCullins.

On the whole, Photofile: Don McCullin is an excellent book and part of a series of books looking at individual photographers.

Bought a selection of Donald McCullin's books after watching a documentary about him a few weeks back. His work is excellent and I haven't been disappointed in any of them. To see an exhibition of his could only top viewing the books.

These are a very simple series for anyone wanting a quick flavour of a photographer's work and in this they succeed very well. The page size is pocketable and is JUST big enough to do justice to images which obviously ought to be larger for impact. Glued spine paperback, durable enough for purpose. Cannot fault the quality of paper used or the actual printing of the photographs though, photos on right hand side, captions only on left hand page, very clean. Highly recommended.

Life on the Front Lines 21 Aug. 2010

Powerful photos of the terrible human cost of war. Will make a pacifist out of anyone. The most visceral photos of war that I've ever seen. Still, a departure from the beucolic landscape that was featured in the product description.
A Photographs about war in different countries 27 Jan. 2012

It's a compeling book. It has different personal connection to the viewer. I particularly like the photograph of a soldier holding a gun that was shocked with fear showing from his eyes. I cannot forget this photo because it's like a nightmare or waking up from a nightmare. So buy this book so you can see what I'm talking about. Buy it from the same seller I bought it from.
