This has always been a great favourite with me as a Mozart fan. There may be other good, even better, recordings, but this one tops my list. The Great Giulini was at the top of his form and the soloists superb. Just listen to Gottlob Frick's commanding Commendatore (pun intended) and you'll know what I mean. For his voice alone the set must be heard. Eberhard Waechter is demonstrably the right choice for the lecherous Don himself. Nothing more need be said about Schwarzkopf as the "used and abused" Donna Elvira. There are better tenors than Alva for Don Ottavio, but his performance is more than adequate. I could go on, but hear it for yourself. In the end, you have to make up your own mind, but you won't be disappointed with this set.
