This film rocks 4 Jan 2007
Format:DVD
Now I admit to not having seen the original Don with Amitabh Bachchan but we went to see this in the cinema as my wife is a BIG Shah Rukh Khan fan. This is very much an action packed watch with good pace throughout and this does not detract from the character development. Shah Rukh Khan plays Don, a criminal mastermind in Asia with a very mean streak - dispatching enemies and defectors with aplomb. There are numerous twists in the plot which keep you interested and which I won't spoil. There are also songs but there are not so many as to detract for the non-bollywood watcher. There are some fantastic action sequences around the Petronas Towers and elsewhere in Malaysia with a thrilling final sequence. My only warning is that if you suffer from epilepsy beware of the disco scene early on in the film. The flashing strobe effect really warants some sort of warning.

Altogether a brilliant film and a much better outing for Shah Rukh Khan than Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna which we didn't like at all! Go on - give it a try. You won't be disappointed!

One of his best! 15 Jan 2007

I have been a SRK fan for years, and i can honestly say this is one of his best!

I liked the original, but this version is definatly a cut above.

SRK is brillient as the cold, calculating DON, and he's equaly great as the warm hearted Vijay. His supporting cast all give great performances and the look and music of the film are truly fabulous!

I would recomend this to every SRK fan, and ifyour new to Bollywood, give this film a try, you wont regret it!

a new dawn for dangerous dark thrillers
farhan akhtars brilliantly dark yet vivid thriller might have been attributed to originate from the rather mediocre chandra barot thriller of the namesake made in 70s ,but in affect it is a moody ,visually stunning ,atmospheric thriller which opens new territories for indian cinema .

sharukh is dangerously stylish as the deadly don ,he exudes dynamic charisma and a raw animal energy which makes him more then real as the drug baron controlling the strings of the underworld, this is his best since SWADES,in fact i went to write his epitaph after the dismal disappointment that was KABI ALVIDA NA KEHNA ,but i came out totally floored by the mighty khan.

he deserved every plaudit for the skilfully crafted technically superb thriller from the boy wonder director ,farhan akhtar who too redeemed himself after the dreadfullly dreary-LAKSHYA,every frame is seriously contemplated and the action sequences are ingeniously good on par with the best in the world from the car chases on the beaches of india coursing on to the narrow streets of a rural community ,but it is the tongue in cheek execution of the airplane escape sequence with dark humour which can give even james bond a run for his money ,even the fight sequence with the lead lady priyanka is stylishly executed and there is a really stunning auto hijack staged by her in kuala lampur, the other lead isha koppikar gave her career best performance so far and looked even more divine then miss chopra ,an ex miss world .

this is really and truly a dynamic thriller with a twist that will take your breath away and leave you begging for a sequel, the production design from the posh parisian clubs to the malysian night spots is spotless as is the terrific musical score which combines rock funk with indian blues, and disco with dandia, the locations are to die for and khan never looked better than in the french designer jacket he wears for the title song .

the bonus of course is a brilliant cameo by the terrific KAREENA KAPOOR ,who is absolutely mesmerising with her vixen looks and spendid performance in a special appearance ,i am looking forward to see the 2 together in future as they simply have a divine PATHAN CHEMISTRY,that only a couple from those origins can emanate .

the camera has been used in a truly novel way in the choreography of the 2 fast paced songs with funky stylish angles and it works wonders .

the flaws are indeed easily overlooked as they are far outweighed by the qualities ,some un necessary details could have been spared and the narrative tightened but then that is true for all movies ,as this stands it is good enough to be compared with any movie of its genre ,be it bourne or bond ,and it is a true triumph for farhan akhtar .

please lets have the sequel or is that too much to ask
