Domino Knitting 28 May 2009
Format:Paperback
How can you knit dominoes ? -easily with this little book. It's small size means it fits your knitting bag, and the easy instructions had a square produced in no time. The tips are helpful, and I would add that I made my own short needles by twisting a rubber band on the ends of 2 double ended needles. They work well. Now I have strips and squares in wonderful colours by using up ready-patterned sock wool, and am ready to start a baby-size jacket. You don't need to be an expert knitter as the stitches are easy but Beware. Domino knitting is addictive!

In reply to other reviewers - yes, it is small and not particularly cheap but it introduces a new (to me at least!) technique with great possibilities. I'm an experienced knitter and started by making one of the potholders consisting of sixteen small squares, joined as you knit. I finished it quickly because it is so addictive - you just have to do one more square! The instructions are very clear and the garments are stylish. The many illustrations show the lovely effects you can get by varying colours, so I will soon be sorting my oddments to make a cushion cover. The technique could easily be incorporated into sweater designs as patchworks and borders. A stimulating book.

The appeal of this book is that it gives instructions on a different way to knit - enabling a whole different range of items to be created. Whilst I fully intend to pursue this and master the technique, I am finding that the instructions could be clearer. Perhaps this is due to the translation, but I have found some of the techniques difficult to follow, and I don't think that the information is presented in the most logical fashion. The technique certainly enables the knitter to produce some very attractive work - and although some of the projects given in the book are of dubious appeal - there is the possibility of creating one's own truly unique designs once the technique has been mastered. It certainly enables odds and ends of yarn to be used to really good effect.
