5.0 out of 5 stars Another magic night with the stars in Berlin 5 May 2007
The dream couple of opera along with Placido Domingo provide many highlights in this well filmed concert from Berlin to celebrate the closing of the Soccer World Cup. I do agree with many of the reviewers that Domingo's diction is exemplary, compared with the new kids on the block. However, I must confess slight disappointment that none of the reviewers make mention that Domingo transposes most of his solo arias than what is originally written, which I am sure is to be expected, given the fact that he was 65 at the time of the recording.

However, Anna and Rolando's performances are incredible. Each aria or duet is sung with such passion and fervour. Highlights are definitely Rolando's 'La Danza' which gets the audience clapping and up on their feet and Anna's 'Quando m'en vo', where she also surprises the audience. Watch the DVD and see what I mean. Reservations aside, this is a classy concert, excellently filmed and the enormous audience of over 12 000 people enjoy every minute. Conductor Marco Armiliato and the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper provide warm and sympathetic accompaniment to the star singers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A feast for eyes and ears 24 Aug 2007
'The Berlin Concert. 3 Superstars live at the Waldbühne.'
Recorded in July 2006 in the beautiful atmospheric setting of the updated Waldbühne amphitheatre, this is a wonderful concert of favourite music and songs by composers such as Lehar and Puccini. Anna Netrebko's beautiful soprano voice is luscious. Placido Domingo still sings powerfully and Rolando Villazón is energetic and passionate. The excellent Orchestra of Deutschen Oper Berlin is conducted by Marco Armiliato.
A booklet is included and there are subtitles in Italian, English, German, French, Spanish and Chinese.
Recommended unreservedly if you want an enchanting evening (nearly 2 hours) of wonderful varied music beautifully played and superbly sung. A feast for eyes and ears.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute gem 18 Jun 2007
This is an exquisite disc with three superb artistes giving their all! I would particularly highlight the duets from "Les PÍcheurs de Perles" and from "La Bohème" and the final two encores turned into trios; the drinking song from "La Traviata" and the joyous "Dein ist mein ganzes Herz" from "Das Land des Lächelns".

5.0 out of 5 stars Two Tenors and a fabulous Soprano 18 July 2009
By Nigel Mc TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
There is so much to commend in this disc. Two of the most exciting young opera stars complemented by an amazing performance by Placido Domingo. The latter just goes on and on delighting audiences all over the world. Despite his age (65 when the concert was recorded) he sounds as good as ever. Netrebko is simply stunning. Gorgeous voice and looks and oozing charm - she had the audience at her finger tips. Villazon is such a vibrant artist and provides the perfect complement to Netrebko. To my surprise the showstopper was Villazon singing Rossini's La Danza. What an exciting, dynamic performer!

The sound and picture quality of the Blu-ray disc is generally top notch. Many cameras are used to view the concert, audience and arena from various perspectives. One of these cameras appears not to be in high definition but the drop in quality is so brief that it does not unduly effect the production. The close ups of the artists provide wonderful detail that is denied to the audience, even to those in the most expensive seats.

If you are hesitating whether or not to buy this disc I would urge you to give it a go. I don't think you will be disappointed. Similarities can be drawn between this concert and those with the 3 Tenors. In my view this concert has a more balanced structure and is much less contrived. There is so much to enjoy.

Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
This is the most enjoyable concert I have ever heard in my life. Every song is a winner. The pictures on this Bluray are simply stunning. The sound is even more stunning. One of the finest sound mixes I have ever heard and I was a sound mixer in the BBC for 30 years, so I should know! The performances are absolutely 100%, towards the end they all come together in the most incredible mix of infectious fun, power, emotion and sheer joy. Anna is just gorgeous! Buy this disc, I emplore you, You most definately will not be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome one of a kind concert 31 Jan 2007
I am usually not an Opera fan and my classical music knowledge is somewhat limited, but this concert is just amazing. My parents were live at the event and bought a bunch of the DVDs to give to friends and it is just AMAZING. The setting is gorgeous, the orchestra is great, and the performance of these three is absolutely outstanding. A great concert to watch, to listen too repeatedly, and if you crank it up, the neighbors will love it as well. Excellent sound quality!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful performance 24 Feb 2010
By Chris
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
Here we have Placido Domingo, Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villzon at their best. A wonderful performance of which I can't say anything that hasn't been said already!

What I did find interesting is the way the menu system is done. There are 20 musical items on the DVD which are displayed as a matrix of 5 by 4 thumbnails. When the cursor is moved over each thumbnail, a window above the matrix shows the name of the piece and the artist/s performing. All it takes is a click on the icon to play the item. I must say this is the first time I have seen this done and was very impressed at how simple and yet how elegant it is. Well done DEAG Classics and Deutsche Grammophon.
