Vinnie Dombroski is one of the most under-rated vocalists in rock music, and his snarly and sultry voice takes on a dimension of honky-tonk when he plays with Sons of Perdition or the Orbitsuns. Is he hamming it up? Is he trading his rock for country? No. Actually, I would say it's the music more than his voice that you are hearing, but his voice is perfectly appropriate here.
Listen to the sample songs. If you like what you hear on "I Love Girls That Swear" (my favorite!), "Impossible" (very catchy -- hardly "country"), "Dollars and Dice," "Damn Straight I'm Drinkin Again," or "Shotgun Wedding," then this is a safe purchase.
This is not a Sponge recording. (But they are still cranking out awesome CDs. Have you heard the "Destroy the Boy" EP yet?!) If you are looking for Sponge, then... look for Sponge. But if you want that swagger, honky-tonk, bluesy, country feel -- yes, Johnny Cash influenced! -- then this is it! Outlaw Country!
