5.0 out of 5 stars Earthy honesty 14 Jun 2011
Format:Paperback
In 'Dole Anthems' Tanner has captured the spirit of the down trodden worker and poems such as 'That First Job' and 'Bettering Oneself' describe emotions we have all felt at one time or another.

Expressions of political leanings reminiscent of those in 1980s Liverpool remind us that nothing has changed and the struggles we fought then are being re-lived today, whether Labour or coalition induced.

Earthy and urban, the language may sometimes offend but persevere to gain an insight into the problems of trying to gain employment in a prejudiced society.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dole Anthems- A must read! 10 July 2011
By Hannah
Format:Paperback
Dole Anthems is not only extremely poignant and thought provoking, questioning many cultural and political values that many take for granted. But the authors passion with these issues is juxtaposed against a humorous form, creating a powerful emotive response in the readers mind.

The book deals with a whole spectrum of issues that anyone can identify with; many times I found myself in agreement, laughing along. But crucially there is a socio-political thread that runs throughout each of these humorous poems thus leading to a questioning of their deeper significance.

Brilliantly written and remarkably witty, well done Tanner.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great collection. 22 Jun 2011
Format:Paperback
i recently bought this book off amazon and its a great read. Its a collection of poems that really some up the state of society and leave you full of loathing for the corporate money makers that take advantage of a downtrodden middle class of workers. Its written in a very unique style that really brought the poems to life and made them very relevant. Every poem is written with tanners unique insight and spans a diverse spectrum of impossible situations you wouldn't wish to find yourself in.
I would recommend this book to anyone, everyone who i have showed it to loves it. So read this book and take heed of tanners warning, dont be a corporate bitch! thank you tanner, i will be looking for any new releases.
