Product Description

Are you beginning a creative writing course? Or thinking about taking one?

Doing Creative Writing is the ideal guide to what you should expect, what will be expected of you and how you can get the most from your course.

It clearly and concisely outlines:

  • the contexts for creative writing courses, explaining where the subject has come from and why that matters

  • the content, structure and delivery of the courses, helping you to understand how your course will be shaped, what you will be asked to do and why

  • the skills you will develop, from self-discipline and time management through to the organization of ideas, 'reading as a writer' and editing

  • possibilities beyond the course, showing how you continue to benefit from what you've learned.

Drawing on years of teaching and writing experience, as well as interviews with a wide range of students, Steve May provides all the background, advice and encouragement you need to embark on a creative writing course with complete confidence and to get maximum benefit from every writing session.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book 24 Jun 2013

This book was on my reading list that I was given by my prof from University and what can I say? This book was the best out if all the others I had to read, it made sense in the terms of giving the reader honest, coherent advise. It delved deep into the subject and have the reader the while truth about creative writing as a subject.
It is the perfect read for those in university abs those wishing to be a writer. Even those who simply find an interst in the subject itself.
But this is, withouta doubt, a must read for any creative writing student or those about to become one. Trust me. Read this.

Excellent book, fast service; contents invaluable to 'creative writing' students trying to weigh up which courses, what the meaning of course descriptions means etc., before taking up a course!

3.0 out of 5 stars Helpful but dull 2 Feb 2008
By Antonio
Format:Paperback
Some quite helpful information on, for example, types of courses and also constructive advice on what to expect, how to participate, and so on - but judging from the tone you'd think that studying creative writing was all rather boring. Not exactly inspiring!
