I am only half way through this book. I have recently taken on an 8 year old Belgian Sheperd. He was a guard dog and quite vicious. Since putting in to practice some of the suggestions from this book, he has turned into a very placid housedog. I have also learned how to read the dog and know what he is thinking and what he means by what he is doing. What an amazing book written by an amazing man, someone who had the insight to treat a dog humanely and see what happened.....A must for any dog owner.

SIMPLY THE BEST! 26 Mar 2008

In my humble opinion this is the absolute best dog training manual that has ever been written ! there is no force, no clickers, no punishments just plain common sense.
John Fisher is sadly no longer with us, but he was one of the best animal behavourists in the country, and put this to good use when he devised this method of dog training.
I first put this into practice nearly 20 years ago when the book first was published, I trained 3 GSD's and one Labrador over the space of many years with this method, and ended up with 4 dogs thst were a joy to work and live with. You do NOT have to want competition dogs, this method is ideal to have a well behaved family pet...small or large, that is a joy to have around especially at the vets ! a small example of this book...a barking dog ? teach it to bark on command and you can teach it to stop..on command ! this works!
Finally in my humble opinion if you have this book, you need no other.

a very helpful read 19 Sep 2005

Being a professional dog handler I found this book very helful. Having taken on a three and a half year old GSD with limited back ground knowledge about the dog many of the methods in the book really do work. A must for people wanting to improve their dogs training and behaviour.

Not for puppy training
I first would like to say that this book is well written. It's based more for older dog training rather than puppies or younger dogs. Read more
