5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely as good! 9 Sep 2003
By spark79
Format:DVD
Dogtanian was my favourite T.V programme when I was little so when I saw I could finally buy it and watch it again I was over the moon. I thought I might be disappointed, that I was remembering it with Rose tinted glasses and that now I'm at the supposedly mature age of 24 it would've lost it's magic. It hasn't.

The DVD arrived today and I'm already 7 episodes into it. Watching it again I remember it all so clearly that it could just be last week that I got home from school and sat patiently at the T.V waiting to see the next installment. The DVD isn't full of Special Features, to be honest it doesn't need to be, but it does have a small profile of some cast members - imagine my surprise when after always fondly remembering Aramis as being my first love I suddenly saw his profile describing him as "slightly camp"!! It was bad enough that my first crush was a cartoon character AND a Springer Spaniel but to also be confronted with doubts over his sexuality, well I'm just thankful that it wasn't released when I was at an impressionable age!

Seriously though, Dogtanian and The Three Muskehounds is just as good as I remember and watching it again has been great. Sometimes you go back to childhood things and they've lost the spark that they once had, but not this. It's stood the test of time and the fact that we've had such a long wait has just made it better. If you loved it when you were a kid, you'll love it now. Just buy it........you know you want to!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dogtanian's enjoyable adventures conclude here 12 Jun 2004
Format:DVD
Finally, nearly a year after the release of Volume 1, containing the first nine episodes, comes the fourth and final volume of the classic 1980's TV cartoon series based on Alexandre Dumas' novel 'The Three Musketeers', about Dogtanian, a young pup who travelled all the way from his home town of Berne to Paris, to hopefully fulfil his dream of becoming one of the King's Royal Musketeers.

Along the way he has overcome numerous tricky situations, usually set up by twisted Prime Minister Cardinal Richelieu and his minions, including Count Rochefort and Captain Widermere.

However, always at hand to keep Dogtanian going are his friends Porthos, Athos, Aramis (the three Musketeers), led by Captain Treville; a little mouse named Pip, his butler Planchet; and of course the love of his life, Juliette.

This contains episodes 20-26 of the series, and you will get to see the conclusion to Dogtanian's adventures, and it wraps up the whole thing well, and you realise that after 26 episodes you've watched a thoroughly enjoyable cartoon series that is still delightful.

5.0 out of 5 stars One for all and all for one!! 2 Jun 2003
Format:DVD
Dogtanian and the Three Muskahounds was one of the best animated series of the 80's. Set in Louis XIII's France, Dogtanian is a young pup who as a great swordsman with a strong sense of honour sets off to Paris to join the famous Muskehounds. There he meets Muskateers Athos, Porthos and Aramis who take him under their wing as they battle the evil Cardinal Richelieu and his many cronies. As well as the Muskehounds, Dogtanian meets and falls in love with the lovely Juliet which makes up a very sweet, heartwarming subplot.

This DVD, the first 9 episodes of season 1 is truly fantastic entertainment. It is funny, romantic, action packed and underlines the importance of friendship. It is just as wonderful as I rememered it to be!!

The DVD itself has some interesting extras including character profiles, a biography of Alexandre Dumas and best of all the words to the truly fabulous theme song, which I guarantee you will be singing for months!

I can't recommend this DVD enough. BUY IT!!!!
