The dogs in this book are endearing, as dogs usually are; most of them were photographed in the US. It's always a pleasure to see, how people and their dogs relate to each other. The quotes in this book are from various well-known as well as anonymous people: 'Acquiring a dog may be the only opportunity a human ever has to choose a relative' (Mordecai Siegal). The photographs in this book were collected by Catherine Johnson, and cover a period between approx. 1910 and the 1950-ies. The book was published in 2007, but has an older appearance, because of layout and printing; it should also be added, that it is very heavy.

Fun, surprising, warmhearted, and quirky. You will love this book. Each time I look at it, I see something new. It is a quality book with hundreds of dogs up to all kinds of mischief and clearly a beloved part of the family. Great gift for animal lovers.

If you buy one book this year for a dog lover -- this is the book to buy. I have several dog books with vintage illustrations and this one is beyond any others that I own. It is beyond stunning. I could go on and on about this book I love it so! It is THE perfect dog book to buy as a Christmas (or anytime) gift. Plus -- it is so reasonably priced! Just buy it! Buy multiple copies but be sure to keep one for yourself!

Excellent book, as if the pics were applied to the pages

The book is a collection of eclectic family dog images. Catherine is one of the largest collectors of these old snapshots. It looks as if the images are affixed to the pages. This book is really neat. These images are very special. This book impressed me in the quality of the printing far more than I can express.
