How do dogs perceive the world about them? How do they see, hear, learn, relate to their owners? How large are their brains, what is their emotional make up? Why do they suffer from stress and how can it be coped with?
Over the last ten years a substantial body of knowledge has been built up about the psychology of dog behaviour. Combining twenty years of practical experience as a veterinary clinician with a personal knowledge and understanding of the latest international research, Dr Bruce Fogle has written the most inclusive and relevant book on how the canine mind works.

Brilliant!,

This review is from: The Dog's Mind (Pelham Dogs) (Paperback)
Being a dog owner (Basset Hound) for the first time, I have found this book invaluable. It really does give you an insight into the dog's mind and also offers solutions for certain problems such as separation anxiety! A definite must for all dog lovers!

This book is fantastic, other reviewers haven't understood the intentions of this book. It isn't intended for the general dog owner, i am doing a behaviourist course, and need to know not only the effects of a behaviour, but how and why that behaviour occurs, and be able to refer to how the dogs brain (and mind) works in relation to this behaviour. If you just want a book that will tell you how to re-train a problem dog this isn't the book for you. BUT if you are TRULY interested in canine behaviour, and why they behave as they do, and are willing to discover the indepth truth (which does touch on the original scientists who discovered most of what we now know about dogs- of course using what we now class as neanderthall techniques). This book is for a committed learner, it is not a coffee table read,or a quick fix book, but a VERY interesting and informative read. A MUST if you are seriously studying canine behaviour!!

In depth analysis of the workings of the dog's mind.,

This review is from: The Dog's Mind (Pelham Dogs) (Paperback)
This is a fine detailed study into the anatomical processes that occur within the brain of the dog, both wold and domestic, with referral to pet dogs and their cousins. It explains how nerve impulses react to stimulate and the reaction that then occurs in response, thus leading to certain actions by the dog. This understanding leads to a greater knowledge of why the family canis acts in the way that they do. The book is a little sciencific, but for the amatuer just wishing to appreciate their dog, it is a good read with clear text. Ideal for any students of veterinary science, dog behaviour and training. Highley recommended.
