Product Description

Product Description

With the help of their English teacher, eight young Tanzanians recount their experiences as street children - how they came to leave home, how they survived, how they found refuge, and how they still love their families. These moving and often shocking stories are illustrated by the boys themselves. "Dogodogo" is suitable for a wide range of audiences and can be read by students at either primary or secondary level. The text tackles a range of serious, global issues and provides many opportunities for discussion with more advanced readers. The title can be used to address a number of themes in the classroom including: the developing world; comparative cultures; homelessness; children's rights; community and family breakdown; poverty; infectious diseases; and, autobiographical writing and children's writing.

This, simply, is a wonderful book. Giving these boys a chance to tell their amazing stories is a priviledge to all who are able to read it. The extremely brave boys show amazing courage and breath-taking strength throughout their individual ordeals. If only we could all realise just how lucky we are.....well done to all involved in this project.

This is a wonderful book, full of humanity and insight. We should all read it and be more aware of how those with almost nothing cope so well.
In our material world, we can so easily loose touch with the important things in life; friends, family, health and companionship.
Buy it, read it and count your blessings every day.

This is a must read for all families, adults and children alike. The stories are humbling, difficult childhood experiences told in a simple and matter of fact way, lacking any self pity or recrimination, but compellingly real. The vibrant illustrations, done by the boys themselves, add to the lustre of this wonderful book. It should be a core text for all geography, social studies, humanities and creative writing classes from Primary through to Secondary schools.

One is forever touched after reading these stories - this book will widen every reader's horizons and deepen their souls, no matter what age. Buy it.
