Product Description

Compassionate, caring, green: this is how David Cameron presented himself before the election. Once in Downing Street, he threw off his disguise. The laid-back old-school Tory emerged as the leader of a party on a break-neck mission to fulfil Margaret Thatcher's vision.

Polly Toynbee and David Walker, previously sharp dissectors of the Blair and Brown record, report that despite confusion and economic failure the Tories core commitment is unchanged. Looking in detail at the government's policies during their first two years in power, Toynbee and Walker warn in this lively analysis that by the next election the welfare state may be in irrecoverable ruins - unless the Tory mission to downsize and diminish the publish realm is brought down first by Cameron's incompetence.

Very well written, though unnecessarily convoluted language at times. Felt like Polly was somewhat held back by David Walker. Still points were very well made, and still relevant as the Coalition government draws to a close.

What an eye opener of a book. Every Britain should read this book now, before Cameron has created the Not so United States Of Britain, by totally privatising the NHS and very other major department including defence/military. What a disaster. This books makes it totally clear That Cameron and Osbourne planned total privatisation of the NHS from the very beginning and all his promises during the election campaign have been nothing but lies

The only we can stop his plans are to sign every petition available. One off I know is [...] who's previous campaigns including selling of forests have been a total success.

Sorry did not mean to digress, but it is the duty of every man and woman in this country to stop Cameron and his MPs etc to turn this country into a Dickensian nightmare, where the rich will get richer and the rest will starve, freeze or die from disease as no NHS, Pension for those who can not afford to pay high premiums will die. I kid not read this book that are his plans. Read this book it reveals the truth

A short book that outlines the case against the Cameron coalition. Polly Toynbee's point of view is well known but her facts are well marshalled in clear chapters allowing you to make your own mind up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dogma and disarray indeed 19 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Concise and lacerating review of the government's performance, so far. As we move into the second half of their term, things really can only get better, although I'm not holding my breath.

Pithy crisp and biting Polly Toynbee is in great form my only complaint is that itis too short - or maybe it just felt that way.

5.0 out of 5 stars The truth about these despicable Tories 5 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Thank God for Polly Toynbee's input to reveal the truth about a Tory led government who continually ridicule the struggling poor and blame them ( instead of the banks) for the state of the nation. This book shows in detail the evil and incompetent regime which is supported fully by Clegg and the Lib Dems. The damage caused to all areas of the Welfare State in such a short time is related in this fine book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Concise & Hard Hitting 15 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
If half of what's written is true, it is very disturbing. (I have no reason to doubt its truthfulness). In its content it reads more like a tabloid scare than a considered Guardian piece. Powerful piece of work.
