Product Description

The Citadel of Wizards was under siege. Deep in the Vaults beneath the walled city, Gates into inhuman realities were opening and closing without warning. Monsters emerged from other dimensions; and ancient, malign magics came to life under the influence of cosmic chaos.

Someone was tampering with the Void.

The Council of Wizards blamed Antryg Windrose, the rebel mage who had fled their justice to find haven in the City of Angels. Across dimensions, they reached out to bring him back...

Antryg refused the wizards' summons. But when Joanna was kidnapped, Antryg followed the woman he loved back across the Void. Trapped in the Citadel between the vengeful mages who once had been his friends and the unspeakable horrors in the Vaults below, Antryg launched a desperate bid to rescue Joanna -- while all about him, the very fabric of the universe unraveled...

From the Back Cover

Antryg Windrose is a refugee from his world. He’s a Los Angeles bartender by night, a tortoise-measuring eccentric by day and he tells everyone he meets that he’s a wizard in exile. No-one believes him, except Joanna the programmer who loves him and knows the truth.

But when Joanna disappears, after speaking of strange, troubled dreams, Antryg knows that he must return to the Citadel in his own realm. The Council of Wizards want him back and they are using Joanna as bait. For someone has tampered with the Void, unlocking Gates to inhuman realities. Monsters are escaping from other dimensions. And an ancient, evil sorcery is conjuring unspeakable horrors that threaten the very fabric of the universe.

“Hambly continues to be one of the most interesting – and subversive – writers of modern fantasy … supremely original … mystery, offbeat fantasy, psychological novel, 'Dog Wizard' is anything but a standard exercise in sword and sorcery”
LOCUS

“A truly magical prose style, and characters with insight and dept trademark Barbara Hambly’s works. An enviable and intricate talent – I never miss any of her works. 'Dog Wizard' is witty, tragic, brilliant – among the best and most striking of her novels”
JANNY WURTS

My Favorite 30 Sep 1998
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I've read every Barbara Hambly book published, but I think this is my favorite. She has a knack for inventing characters that are complex and real, but Antryg and Joanna are not only believable but wonderful. I can't think of them without a feeling of fondness that I'd usually associate with my own family.

Antryg in trouble again.

This series, one of Hambly's best to date, is a great, hard to put down read. Just read it for the fifth time, and came looking to see if she has gotten to write (the very needed) next volume. Unfortuantly, not yet.

The culture, the magic and how they intergrate is top notche.

In this final installment of her "Dog Wizard" trilogy, you can only home she will do what so many other others are fond of doing today...write andother one! These books are well written and can easily stand independently of each other, but once you read one you want more. Today, it seems, you can get halvway through some workd and already see the "to be continued" notice at the back. There is no feeling of closure to the story and you know you are going to have to buy a couple of more books for satisfaction. Come on now...Ms. Hambly is a gifted story-weaver and lets each of her works stand on their individual merit. These books are a must read for any true fan of fantasy!
