I bought this collar as I thought it was a replacement collar for a remote shock/vibration collar previously bought which had become damaged. When it arrived I realised my mistake and although dubious thought I would give it a try as my basset hound was constantly barking (I'd only ever had to use the vibration function on the previous collar to distract him from barking). Well it was the biggest mistake I've ever made, it certainly gave him a shock, to such a point it made him howl in tremendous pain which obviously the device picked up the sound of the howl and shocked him again I had to rip it off his poor neck before it could shock him yet again, my basset weighs 37 kilos and therefore it must have been one huge shock to get through all the folds on his neck, there is no control with this collar unlike the remote ones that have manual adjustable levels and a choice to use just the vibrate or as a last resort the shock. I dread to think what it would do to a smaller dog. I would NOT recommend this collar to anyone.

We have used today and yes my 7 month staff has barked much less but it does seem a little harsh .
She set it off twice this afternoon. She has a red mark where it went off and my hubby said it was horrible to watch.
I took it off her and she has obv learnt (at least for today not to bark so much) but when I touched her neck to stroke her - she has ran away in pain.
So maybe intensity is a bit much - hoping not to have to use it much again.

I initially reviewed this product after a few days use and a marked improvement in my noisy little terriers behavior. After 3 weeks, I am sufficiently impressed to add to my earlier review. It has simply done the job perfectly. My "Rosie" is now perfectly quiet when the door bell rings, does not go berserk when people walk their dogs past the house, and, above all, she is also almost totally quiet when in our car with our labrador, so now we can enjoy walks in the country again. This, the first time for the four years we have had her. For those who are concerned about the "shock" feature, Rosie quickly learned her lesson, and has only activated it twice since we have used it, she always stops after one bark and hears the warning signal. As I said on my earlier review, she loves having it on because she knows she will be rewarded with a biscuit treat when it's put around her neck.

This has caused me problems

Dog collar
The dog collar does seem to work but as the batteries only seem to last about two weeks were nearly 6 pound a battery it seems to be a very expensive way of keeping the dog quiet

Certainly does the Job

Yelping in pain
This collar was massive and bulky. It appeared to work ok for 10minutes then really hurt my dog. The more she yelped the more it carried on hurting her continuously
