Product Description

Synopsis

This collection of verse and drawings from the man dubbed "comedy's poet laureate" combines Hegley's skills as a stand-up poet, puppeteer and cartoonist. The work is, by turns, both touching and funny.

Having been a recent convert to John Hegley's work I have had to absorb much in a short time, yet was like a teenager waiting for the new Boyzone release when I heard DOG was on its way. Fans of Hegley will know what to expect, more of his sideways/upsidedown look at life, with extra servings of dog. Verses that stand out for me are 'Mad Mum', the recycling based 'Rhyl', the recollective 'The Luton Riots Revisited', and the very irreverant 'Look Dad'. John Hegley has a unique style which can be lost when translating his work from the live area into print. I loved this book because I was able to imagine all the works performed on stage, by Hegley, with all his mannerism, expressions and quips. Newcomers to the printed work may not get as much enjoyment, but should be encouraged to buy this book, then seek out Mr. Hegley(and his dog) in a live situation.

Lovely book - I own a copy and read it cover to cover straight off and bought a second copy for my clever funny sister. Quite touching love for his mum and funny poem - an owners complaint is original wit and worth sharing with clever funny people you know that dont already know about Hegley.
