I just received this book as a birthday gift from my daughter. We both love dogs and we both love our country so this is a perfect book for us. First let me say I have not read it cover to cover yet, but did scan through and read some sections and get a good feel for this book. It is filled with beautiful, poignant pictures and heart-stirring stories of these canine heroes and their dedicated handlers. You will weep yet again over the devastation and heartbreak of that day and the days that followed, as recounted and chronicled by the handlers. But you will be inspired over and over by the heart,courage and dedication these dogs displayed as they worked tirelessly to find anyone living, and eventually to find any remains in order to provide that small measure of comfort to the families. Their task was daunting and many suffered extreme exhaustion, injuries etc, but they could not be deterred from their task.
The 10th anniversary edition has been updated to include current information on the dogs. Only a few are still alive today and you will weep as the owners share their memories and last days with those dogs who have passed away since 9-11-2001.
Overall, a beautiful book and a heart-stirring tribute to search and rescue dogs everywhere and those who train them and work with them in service to our nation. Truly they are man's BEST FRIEND!
