Product Description

Product Description

In this, their second adventure together, Bruce Fogle and his faithful dog, Macy, (with a compact motorhome), journey into the little known heart of Europe. Travelling through the Netherlands, northern Germany, Scandinavia, and the Baltics, then down the eastern rim of Poland to Slovakia and Slovenia, Fogle uncovers revelations about his ancestry as well as discovering the real central Europe. With Macy stoically at his side, Bruce Fogle can savour the landscape in a way he couldn't alone. Macy introduces him to an eclectic mix of rural folk and local animals as well as other travellers. Together Macy and Bruce walk for miles through peaceful woods and empty shores, taking time off from the frenetic bustle of urban life to appreciate the unspoilt beauty of landscapes still frozen in the aspic of time. The perfect travelling companion, "A Dog Abroad" is an enchanting read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another tale of Macy and her faithfull companion Bruce, 29 Aug 2007
By Alan Williams "tonto" (Hampshire, UK) - See all my reviews

Follow up to Travels with Macy, this time Bruce Fogle, and Macy set off across Europe. Not as good as Travels with Macy (otherwise it would have gotten 5 stars), if you have read the first book you will still love it, and if you haven't and enjoy books about dogs or travelogues then this is the book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good All Round Read, 4 Jul 2009
By B. A. Ferner (Lancashire, UK) - See all my reviews

This book could be filed under so many different headings! A good travel book, a dog story, ancient and modern history - even cookery! I enjoyed Bruce Fogle's previous travel book with Macy in America, and it inspired us to visit Santa Fe. I don't know that we will follow his footsteps again, but I found the book to be fascinating and thought provoking. In years to come this book may be considered a valuable comment on the various countries in rapidly changing times. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book, 15 Feb 2009
If you are a dog lover and love travelling you will love this book. I have a golden retriever myself and have several of Bruce Fogles more serious books but this one was fantastic. This book is more like a journal of a man who travels Europe with his dog. The unexpected part for me was finding out so much about parts of Europe I had never thought of before or had any inclination of visiting. I found out that they build platforms for storks to nest on in some european countries. It is a cross between a travel book (a la Bill Bryson) and a book about dogs (Marley and me). A great read.
