4.0 out of 5 stars Save capitalism, buy this book, 9 Jan 2009
There is a lot of cheap fun to be poked at bankers these days. Andy Zaltzmann wisely doesn't do this. He has come up with an inventive, original and deliriously funny take on the credit crunch. His excursions into the surreal are no weirder than the reality. Professional economists would be hard pushed to fault the way in which he analyses the flaws of modern methods of money creation from the viewpoint of the stand-up comic in the street. The BBC should sack Robert Peston and give his job to Zaltzmann, who is a lot funnier, far less patronising and understands finance just as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very funny, 25 Aug 2009
Having read it I can happily declare that Andy Zaltzman's book is better than he has described it himself! The book is wordy and intelligent and made me laugh a lot. Does anything eat bankers is one long question and answer session including the title but you can also expect answers to other important questions such as: how fat does a cat have to be to qualify as a "fat cat?"

I have read another humorous take on the economy this year and truth be told I think Dave Barry's Money Secrets: Like: Why Is There a Giant Eyeball on the Dollar? was funnier. Dave is lesser known in the UK; and his humor is lower brow than Andy who really is a radio 4 comedian though both are very intelligent writers.

Dave Barry on taxes "The gross national product is several trillion dollars, of which one-third is sent to the government in the form of taxes for the express purpose of being wasted."

Andy Zaltzman on bailouts "if you do find yourself in a situation where you have to bail out a financial institution, whether than be a bank, a small business or a daughter, the basic calculation should be a sum that seems reasonable for the purpose, multiplied my a contingency factor of 10,000 percent."

Andy is a great comedian; and is currently working on a very impressive new kitchen; so please help out and buy this book. The cover proudly annouces that 10p will be donated to the economy for each copy sold; so do your part and end the recession.

4.0 out of 5 stars Credit crunched but still laughing..., 1 Feb 2009
By Ms. G. E. Denton (Leeds, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Andy Zaltzman's sideways look at the credit crunch is always funny and occasionally hilarious. The Q&A style of the book gives it punchy humour about a subject that rightly concerns everyone.
This is not a book for someone who wants more (serious) information about the recent economic events; rather it is aimed as a sarcastic take on recent events for those who are being "credit crunched".
It is a fantastically funny read and a must for anyone who likes to laugh at life!

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely funny, and very damning, satire
Zaltzman knows a lot more than he acknowledges and, consequently, his resulting take on current financial lunacy is an extremely funny, and very damning, satire.
