Common sense approach to health from an experienced doctor,
By
This review is from: A Doctor in the Wilderness (Paperback)
Dr Yellowlees meanders through various anecdotes about life as a GP in rural Scotland, but his primary focus is on the effects of diet on health - primarily refined foods versus whole foods.
He points out himself that empirical evedence on this subject is hard to come by - we cannot run a controlled experiment lasting the lifetime of the subject when the subject are humans. However, using a range of singular cases, anecdotes and research he lays a strong argument that the eating of heavily refined foods - especailly sugar and white flour - can have a detrimental affect on a persons health and longevity. While not a revelation, this book may make you think about what you eat and where it comes from, without promoting the faddishness of fashionable foods that Dy Yellowlees disparages in the opening chapters.
