From Amazon.co.uk

The second series of the new Doctor Who disappears with a bang, thanks to an excellent two-parter that throws in the Doctors' old foes with the departure of companion Rose Tyler.

Yet this final disc of the series two collection actually kicks off with "Fear Her", a decent enough way to spend three quarters of an hour, but far from the series highlight, and not the reason most people will buy this disc. It's a breezy tale of a little girl whose disturbing drawings come to life, a premise admittedly with some promise. The execution though is fairly middle of the road, and save for some fun moments along the way, it's fairly forgettable, if entertaining, stuff.

The closing two parter though is terrific. It kicks of with "Army Of Ghosts", which finds the residents of Earth being visited by strange ghostly shapes, believed to be assorted relatives who have long since died. Predictably, that's not the case, and much to the shock of Torchwood, an Earth-based organisation investigating alien technology, the world promptly finds itself pretty much invaded. And there's still room for things to get worse in "Doomsday", with more than one major villain from the Doctor's past arriving on Earth, prompting a major battle, the return of faces from earlier in the series and a farewell to Rose Tyler.

It all wraps up another hugely successful series of Doctor Who, and once again does it with a considerably strong pair of final episodes. We've said it before and we'll say it again--we can't wait to see how they'll top it next time around… --Simon Brew

Product Description

The final three episodes of the BBC's relaunched version of the sci-fi classic, starring David Tennant as the legendary Time Lord, and Billlie Piper as his human sidekick Rose. In 'Fear Her', the time travellers arrive in London in 2012, just in time for the Olympic Games. But in a quiet suburban street, something strange is happening - people are going missing with no explanation. Is there a connection to a strange little girl who never leaves her room, and who spends all her time drawing pictures? In 'Army of Ghosts (Part 1)', the Doctor and Rose pay a visit to see Jackie (Camille Coduri), but are shocked to discover that mankind is now sharing its world with millions of strange spectral figures. As the Doctor investigates the truth about these supposed 'ghosts', he is led to the secretive Torchwood Tower, where he uncovers a plot to harness a rip between the dimensions as an energy source. But the Torchwood operatives face an even greater threat than they realised, as the 'ghosts' are revealed to be the dreaded Cybermen, breaking through from their dimension. In 'Doomsday (Part 2)', Cybermen are the least of the Doctor's worries as the Void Ship in Torchwood's basement is revealed to contain a squad of Daleks. Using captured Time Lord technology, the Daleks prepare their own invasion of Earth, and as the Daleks and the Cybermen battle each other for supremacy, the Doctor works out a way to close the rip between the dimensions. But in order to get it shut, will Rose have to make the ultimate sacrifice?

5.0 out of 5 stars An incredible finale 14 Oct 2006
... best sums up a fantastic 2nd season of new DR WHO. Children go missing and the Doctor and Rose do a bit of Mulder & Scully in FEAR HER which kicks off this final DVD. Then our intrepd travels are back to the Powell Estates and the Torchwood Institute to mix things up with some "spirits" in ARMY OF GHOSTS. Of course, all isn't what it seems and before too long its trouble times two as the Doctor squares off against both Cybermen AND Daleks. The Doctor pulls out everything, but in the end he loses Rose in DOOMSDAY. I have to mention here what an terrific pair David and Billie have been throughout the season. Her farewell was one of the most moving "companion" exits ever, next to Lis Sladen saying goodbye to Tom Baker's Doctor. Can't wait to see next year.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great end to a brilliant programme! 25 Aug 2006
By vicky
Volume 5 concludes the excellent TV Show (Doctor Who)! Such a shame to see Rose go as we only just got used to the new doctor I believe the best so far. David Tennant adds the 'wacky' side to Doctor Who making him brilliant and excellent for the part. He works well with Billie Piper and acts it out as if he as Doctor Who has known the her for years and really has only been acting the part since the second Series. He adds the comedy to the show David Tennant fits the part brilliantly. I personally didnt like series 1 because of who played Doctor Who but after seeing School Reunion and The Girl In The Fire Place I could not stop watching the rest of the Series.

Fear Her - Is a simple story set in 2012 the Year in which the UK holds the Olympics. Its set in London on one street which has had children being missing. Its a 'who done it' mystery in which Rose is left to solve the problem of sending the alien possessing a child haunted by her dad in her night mares back home. Its not the best of Doctor Who but it is a satisfactory story and after Episode 10 Love and Monsters well anything can beat that episode. Its still a simple and easy watch story and another save from The Doctor.

Army Of Ghosts - Is the start of a second part episode in which the Doctor and Rose travel back to Earth to find that things arent exactly the same as how they left it. Jackie (Rose's Mum) accidently stays in the Tardis when the Doctor and Rose go and investigate what is bringing all these Ghosts to Earth. And find it is Torchwood. The Institute in a earlier episode created my Queen Victoria to stop the Doctor from suposedly doing any more damage to Earth. The Institute designed to research Alien Techonolgy. Its a great episode you cant watch this without seeing Doomsday and the same the other way around. It finishes the story as in every episode Torchwood is mentioned. The Daleks and The Cybermen return in this episode to start a war and it is purley a brilliant end to a wonderful serious.

Doomsday- is quite a sad episode with the end of Rose and the Doctor's travelling together. The Doctor soons find a way to get rid of both the Daleks and The Cybermen but this means losing a special person to him. If you havent seen it I don't want to spoil it as it is a fantastic finale.

Overall- If you want to buy a Doctor Who Dvd and dont want them all then buy this one to watch them over and over again as it has 2 of the best episodes and you can't have one without the other. Its a great end to Doctor Who and I cant wait for the third series with the Doctor's new side kick who has now be comfirmed as the girl who stars in Army Of Ghosts with its first episode at Christmas.

110% Brilliance!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Finale to a Brilliant Series!! 14 Aug 2007
These are great episodes to end the series.
The First one "Fear Her" is okay but not as good as the others. It is about a girl who gets posessed by a creature called the "Isolus". Whenever she draws something it disappears from reality and ends up in the drawing. It is a decent enough story but a very weak plot.(7/10)
The "Army of Ghosts" is a great episode. When the Doctor and Rose take a visit back to London they find out that at times in the day, there is a ghost shift when all these ghosts appear. It ends up that the ghosts are Cybermen and the Daleks are there aswell. Great episode!(10/10)
"Doomsday" is the best out of all of them by far. The Cybermen have taken control by upgrading everyone, while the Daleks are trying to open "The Genesis Ark", which in the end; we find out that it is a prison ship from the timelords, made to put Daleks in, then they take over. Then finally there is the great finale of the Doctor losing Rose! A very dramatic ending.(10/10)
I strongly recommend that you buy this. (Overall 10/10)!!!
