Product Description

Patrick Troughton's Doctor encounters the Cybermen in London in this classic soundtrack adventure, narrated by Frazer Hines. Arriving on Earth in 1975, the Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe discover that the component manufacturers International Electromagnetics has a vice-like grip on the world's technology. When he encounters the firm's company director, the Doctor realises that there is something very odd about Tobias Vaughan: Vaughan is in fact in alliance with the Cybermen, and together they are masterminding an aggressive invasion of Earth. If the Doctor and his friends are to defeat them, they must risk life and limb in an adventure of epic proportions.

In an exclusive bonus interview, Frazer Hines, who also narrates the soundtrack adventure, recalls his experiences of playing Jamie in "Doctor Who".

This story is coming to DVD in November 2006. It's eight episodes long, and the first and fourth part are missing from the BBC archives.

When it was released on video, these gaps were bridged by some linking narration. The DVD will have the original soundtrack and animated recreations of the missing episodes.

But if you can't wait till november, or if you want a doctor who cd for a long car journey, or if you want to complete your soundtrack collection of missing stories, or if you can't see very well and thus have to have cd not dvd, then this is for you.

Typically excellent BBC sound production and narration from frazer hines provide us a story that adapts incredibly well to the medium. I never had any trouble in understanding what was going on, or picturing it in my mind.

And this is a classic story of cyberman invasion, aided by evil human tycoon tobias vaughn - who is superbly voiced by the magnificent kevin stoney.

A great story, and a great package. Although why couldn't they have put a reversible spine in like they did with earlier releases? It completely disrupts the run of them on my shelf. But that's the only problem with a great cd.

Patrick Troughton's Second TV incarnation of The Doctor encounters the Cybermen in London in this classic soundtrack adventure, narrated by Frazer Hines who played Scottish companion Jamie.

Arriving on Earth in the year 1975, the Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe Heriot discover that the component manufacturers International Electromagnetics has a vice-like grip on the world's technology. When he encounters the firm's company director, the Doctor realises that there is something very odd about Tobias Vaughan; the director is in fact working surreptitiously with those metal giants from Mondas - The Cybermen. They are plotting an invasion of Earth, and if The Doctor and his companions are to defeat them, they must risk all in an exciting and dangerous battle of wits.

This CD set has an exclusive bonus interview with Frazer Hines, who recalls his experiences of playing Jamie in the long-running Sci-fi show.

As some of the episodes are lost, Hines provides competent linking narration. Arguably The Cybermen's finest hour, this CD set is great package and highly recommended; even for those who have the recently released DVD.

This is great stuff! What's not to like - the Second Doctor at his `Puckish' best, Cybermen, UNIT (with the straight up and down Brigadier, and good ol' Benton) - baddies, helicopters, Russian missiles and everything! Action packed is the only way to describe it - in the course of this eight part story, the Doctor and Jamie scale rope ladders to helicopters, travel around in an RAF Hercules, are involved in UNIT's battle against the Cybermen (with the help of missiles), clamber around the sewers of London in search of Cybermen, climb up elevator shafts - it's all quite exhausting. This is absolutely classic Doctor Who in every good sense of the word. Totally recommended, and totally wonderful.

Frazer Hines does a great job with the linking narrative, and his interview at the end of the third cd is great reminiscing about his enjoyable time with the Doctor, Deborah Watling and Wendy Padbury - I especially like his story about the Wendy Padbury meeting up with the vicar in the Church hall. And Kevin Stoney as Tobias Vaughn is wonderfully chilling - very reminiscent of his ability to ooze evil with every syllable which he showed in his role as Mavic Chen in the First Doctor story with the Daleks.

This story also celebrates the creation of UNIT - although Lethbridge-Stewart and the Doctor have met once before, it was before the creation of UNIT and it is in this story that UNIT really comes into its own.

Cannot recommend this highly enough - would give it 10 stars if I could.
