Amazon.co.uk Review
"Remembrance of the Daleks" was the final Doctor Who story to feature the titular mutant cyborgs, and is a particularly notable adventure for the way it ties the plot into the very first story, "An Unearthly Child" made 25 years before.

It is 1963, and the Seventh Doctor, Sylvester McCoy arrives in London with new companion Ace (Sophie Aldred), where two Dalek factions are engaged in a deadly search for the Hand of Omega. Ace quickly proves herself a dab-hand with high explosives, and while there are references to the history of the show, including some nice in-jokes, the drama is played much straighter than in McCoy's first season as the time traveller. This is Doctor Who with a decent budget; the period setting is surprisingly lavish and there are some fairly intense action sequences. The Daleks remain as menacing as ever, the plotting has an intriguing air of mystery, and McCoy injects some steel into his characterisation. Aldred serves an ace as a heroine with attitude, (very much post-Sarah Connor from The Terminator), and if this really does prove to be the Dalek's swansong, at least they go out with a bang.

On the DVD: Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred provide a warm and friendly commentary track, which also offers optional subtitles. The audio possibilities continue with an isolated music track, though the sound is Pro-Logic stereo, not the stated Dolby Digital. There are trailers for two episodes, a collection of out-takes, 13 deleted or extended scenes, and the raw footage from two different camera angles for two major scenes. Optional on-screen production notes complete a package which, with animated menus and very good 4:3 picture quality puts many Hollywood releases to shame.--Gary S. Dalkin

5.0 out of 5 stars A BATTLE BETWEEN TWO DALEK FACTIONS, A MYSTERIOUS DOCTOR AND UNLIMITED RICE PUDDING! WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT?, 12 May 2007
As you will probaly know this was the last apperance of the "tin plated pepperpots" in the original series of doctor who. And what an exit! This is the one with the wobbly daleks, but no it`s not because of low bugets. Listen to the commentary in part one and find out why they wobble. Possibly the best dalek story, this has a much more mysterious doctor, Sophie Aldred makes the part of Ace her own and who could forget the special weapons dalek! But why do people say that daleks could`nt fly in the old series? I`m glad Davros is kept out of the way for most of the story and leaves his creations to just get on with it. Buy this now! you won`t regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The REAL 25th celebration story, 18 Jun 2006
When you look at the 'Doctor Who' era of Sylvester McCoy, you think of junk like 'Time And The Rani' 'Delta And The Bannermen' and 'Silver Nemesis', the silver year celebration story. But you overlook masterpieces of television like 'The Curse Of Fenric' 'Battlefield' 'Survival' 'The Greatest Show In The Galaxy' and this. This is possibly the standout of the McCoy years, and this stories Daleks are much more menacing than the newer 'Daleks'. Sophie Aldred is my favorite companion and Sylvester is possibly my favorite Doctor. This should have been the story to celebrate 'Doctor Who's' 25th year.

Come on, buy it! You'd be mad not to.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Dalek Story, 9 Jul 2004
By A Customer
EXCELLENT!!!

"Remembrance of the Daleks" has been regarded by most Doctor Who fans as one of Doctor Who's most compelling stories as it combines high quality Production Values with the undeniably real chemistry of both Ace (Sophie Aldred) and the reincarnation of the 7th Doctor (Sylvester McCoy),.

Two Daleks factions... the Renegade Dalek (aided by a mysterious entity (que Spoiler)) and the Imperial Daleks (aided by another mysterious entity (que another Spoiler)) try to recover the "Hand of Omega" (previous left behind by the Doctor (as his first regeneration), an interstellar manipulator device that would give either Dalek faction a source of unimaginable power!! As well as becoming Lords of Time!!

However, the storyline grows more complex as now a Human Military Group has detected unusual activity near "Coal Hill School" and "Totter's Lane" (queue continuity and references from previous Doctor Who stories).

Now the Doctor alongside 1980's teenage companion Ace (fresh from joining the Tardis in her previous debut Doctor Who story "Dragonfire") must now not only prevent the "Hand of Omega" from falling into the wrong hands, but make sure that any Human life as well as the Earth are not destroyed in the process.

Other characters worth mentioning are Rachel (Pamela Salem) and Allison (Karen Gledhill) who do thier humane best to keep up with the pace of this mounting situation.

Themes of racial purity and bigotry are handled well throughout this adventure. Ace's explaination of why the Imperial and Renegade Dalek factions are fighting each other is a memorable scene in this adventure.

This story has been reported by many sources as costing 12000 pounds overbudget. As a result, this story boasts some of the best special effects in Doctor Who History.

These examples are (spoiler alert).
1. The Dalek energy weapons have been upgraded!! WOW!!!
2. The spectacular extermination of a Soldier in Totter's Lane when the Soldier is hit by a Dalek energy weapon (superb skeletal special effects) and then thrown several meters back!!
3. The Daleks (even though it has been hinted at in earlier Doctor Who stories) can now climb stairs!!!
4. The intense battle scenes between both Imperial and Renegade Daleks!!
5. The Renegade Dalek Shuttlecraft landing in Coal Hill School!!

NOTE: There are two versions of this DVD. The UK version of this DVD is unfortunately missing several special effects sequences that have been amended upon its release in the US. Check out the "Doctor Who Restoration Team" website for further information!! The US released version is far superior!! With enough extras this adventure warrants repeated viewing!!!
