As our "villain" of the piece always says, "If theres no way of getting around something, you've just got to plough straight through it." The intial stages of this audio are confusing - i was under the impression it was a follow on from the one that went before, (this was my first Eighth Doc / Lucie adventure), but apparently not. So i ploughed straight through all the confusion at the beginning in the hope it all got explained, and yep, i was rewarded. For this is a lovely drama, neatly speckled with those little sci fi moments that doctor who thrives on. The denouement is a heart-rending tour-de-force that is truly excellent.
Paul McGann is fantastic as the Eighth Doctor, and once again i feel that pain that only his 1996 movie made it to screen. Sheridan Smith, with her annoying north accent, is a wonderful companion, plucky enough and clever enough to match the Doc word for action. However, stand out performance goes to Nigel Havers, "appearing" in his first ever doc who. One particular bit where he switches between being the doc's best friend to a sudden overtly angry real evil bad guy in ONE SENTENCE is a spectacularly shocking moment.
See if you can guess whats going on before its announced, as its truly rewarding when you realise the script is so well done that all the info is there, you just need to piece it together.
No More Lies...this is brilliant. I'm off to seek out the further adventures of the Doctor and Lucie.
