4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting History of Dr Who the show, not the legend, 14 Feb 2000

This review is from: Doctor Who: A Book of Monsters (Hardcover)
This book traces how many of the famous and memorable monsters were dreamed up by the script editors and designers, and their impact on the public. If like me you are interested in "behind the scenes" Dr Who then this book is for you. The level of detail is sufficient to give insight without being (in general) boring. Fully recomended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nearly Perfect!, 25 July 2005
This review is from: Doctor Who: A Book of Monsters (Hardcover)
This book is essential for any fan of the show. Not only does it tell us the facts about the villans, it shows us some behind the scene stories and scripts that were never used. All it needed was more pictures!

5.0 out of 5 stars Behind the Scenes with Classic Who Aliens, 5 July 2011
By
Mr. G. W. Jordan "jgary763" (Yorkshire) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Doctor Who: A Book of Monsters (Hardcover)
I've owned this book since it was first published in 1997 and it's a treasured possession.
Its an easy to read history about how the creatures that populate the Whoniverse were conceived and brought to the screen. The book has a wealth of photos and artwork from behind-the-scenes of Doctor Who production.
There are chapters on each decade of production and chapters on his major foes: the Daleks and Davros, the Cybermen, the Ice Warriors, the Sontarans and the Haemovores (not a recurring enemy but interesting nonetheless).
The last part of the book lists the majority of the monsters and aliens encountered on the Doctor's travels (from Aggedor to the Zygons) with brief descriptions. The creators and actors are also credited.
There is now a Kindle version: Doctor Who Monsters: A Classic Series Bestiary
