Product Description

Video Description
This is one of the best Sylvester McCoy stories. The plot craftily borrows from John Carpenter’s 1979 chiller The Fog. Guest stars Nicholas Parsons as a vicar.

Synopsis
The Tardis arrives in Second World War England. Here, Viking graves in a local church yard begin calling for the wolves of Fenric to return for their treasure. Corpses begin to walk from the sea....

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspenders!, 27 April 2009
By Binro The Heretic "mattieboyz" (Hillsborough, Sheffield) - See all my reviews

Just a nod to the po-faced reviewer who commented on Sophie Aldred flashing her pants - it's summat for the dads, love!
This is arguably McCoy's best outing as the Time Lord and with a strong supporting cast it is also a cracking story. The production team possibly overspent here which may explain the tackiness of 'The Happiness Patrol', but this is sumptuous and authentic, and even Aldred dressed like a 1940s Land Girl can't spoil a classic adventure.
Also available on DVD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good example of late Doctor Who., 15 Jan 2001
By A Customer
In the last season of Doctor Who, the McCoy/Aldred partnership was finally beginning to work and they were both proving that they could act their roles well. This adventure is one of the best two McCoy stories (the other one is Ghost Light). Set during the Second World War, this is one of the precious few Doctor Who serials that was filmed entirely on location. The period detail is good and there is some good dialogue about the advent of the Cold War with Russia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who says Doctor Who was cheesy rubbish?, 16 Dec 2000
By A Customer
This is one of the few McCoy stories that stands scrutiny in retrospect. Set during the Second World War, the Doctor is embroiled in one of the more complicated stories the series ever produced. Excellent acting all round with some very respected British actors making guest appearances. There is also some intelligent writing about the impending Cold War. Millington's hatred of the Russians and his plans to drop gas explosives on Moscow are truthful examples of how the establishment distrusted the Russians and how the Cold War was inevitably going to follow the German defeat: the alliance with the U.S.S.R. was only ever a temporary and convenient co-operation. Dinsdale Landen does a brilliant job playing a disabled genius who becomes controlled by the spirit of Fenric and Ace is forced to finally confront her feelings for her mother. All in all, a gripping tale, one of the strongest storylines the programme ever gave us, not a poor acting performance to be seen and an example of what the Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred partnership was capable of. It will always be one of my favourites. Oh, and Nicholas Parsons delivers the acting performance of his career in television!
