Half Good 24 April 2004
By Jane Aland VINE™ VOICE
Companion Piece concerns the 7th Doctor and new companion Cat becomingprisoners of the Inquisition in a future dominated by a schism-wrackedinterstellar Roman Catholic Church. The issues are interesting enough (doaliens have souls?), and Cat's story is told well enough (though I'm sureyou'll guess her secret a good 20 pages before the end), but theunderlying adventure seems to suddenly come to an abrupt end halfwaythrough. A reasonably pleasant read, but disappointingly it appears thatthe Doctor runs away in the TARDIS midway through the story rather thanconfront the corrupt Catholic Church. Half decent - but where’s theending?
