This audio book is made up of three stories, Bounty, Dead Time, and The People's Temple. In Bounty, The Doctor and his companion, Sam, are vacationing by the sea when they become embroiled in a bounty hunter's expedition. In Dead Time, The Doctor and Sam are trapped in a mysterious black nothingness in which ominous disembodied voices whisper their intent to kill The Doctor. Finally, in The People's Temple, The Doctor and Sam travel back in time to witness the construction of Stonehenge. In print, Bounty and Dead Time would be fun but forgettable stories. The People's Temple would be a story that after 10 - 15 pages I would give up on. I find stories in which The Doctor matches wits with prehistoric people asinine. Sorry, but the thought of The Doctor not being able to outsmart some prehistoric man in less than a paragraph is just something I can't handle. Fortunately, this is an audio book, and Paul McGann is a splended storyteller. His narration is flawless, and he performs each part with style. As with the TV movie, McGann's performance transcends the material he is given to work with. The end result of this is a work that is both entertaining yet unfulfilling at the same time. With luck, Mr. McGann will at some point in the not so distant future be provided with the opportunity to play the part of The Doctor in a production that matches his talents.

Hypnotic and enchanting 18 Jan 2003
By Ron Daniels, Jr. - Published on Amazon.com
McGann's voice borders on the hypnotic. He is an exceptional actor to start with and alternates between narrating and being part of the story flawlessly. He's turned three stories from the Short Trips collection (text print which is not included) into a one man performance that muct be beheld. These two tapes make for an excellent entertainment no matter if you are traveling, relaxing or what have you. This is an excellent treat for your ears and your mind's eye. If only it was available in CD.
