5.0 out of 5 stars FINAL DRINKS !!!, 13 Nov 2008
This is the second and final installment of DOCTOR ON THE GO wrapping up the series that began in 1969 nearly a decade before.
By this stage it was starting to lose some of its original intense energy often seen during its peak in the Doctor at Large/In Charge series.
The late 70s was going through a change of comedic style closing its doors on various old greats like Dads Army, the Goodies, George & Mildred and this one, the Doctor series, making way for new and conventional reality type comedies such as Yes Minister, To the Manor Born, Not the Nine O'clock News etc and saw innovative unappreciated greats like The Goodies tossed out on their ears unexpectantly making way for the new Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
I am not knocking or blaming any of these shows themselves, its just that it would have been nice for some shows to have been allowed to bow out gracefully like Dads Army was allowed to do.
While change is indeed good for your health as things tend to stagnate, some Television classics did deserve alot more mileage in them than they were otherwise given.
But anyway back to Doctor On The Go, although the scripts were indeed starting to become abit tiresome and repetitive there's still enough spark to keep the embers alive for just one more laugh.
The 3 greats were still there being Robin Nedwell, Geoffrey Davies and Ernest Clark and anyone who's followed this series and indeed my reviews will know by now who they all are.
1977 wraps up the original British run making way for a further series later in 1979 as Waring & Stuart-Clark head off to Australia in 'Doctor Down Under' which is available on DVD now from various outlets in Australia.
The short lived Doctor At The Top originally televised in 1991 one hopes it will eventually surface and be released to DVD as I have never seen it.

The Episode titles are as follows;

When Did You Last See Your Father?
I Love Paris... When I Get There
Money Spasms
What's In A Name?
The War Of The Wards
For Your Own Good
Bunny Makes The World Go Round
Loftus The Terrible
A Turn For The Worse M*A*T*C*H*
California Girl
Sunday Bleeping Sunday
Happy Ever After

5.0 out of 5 stars "Did I Run Over A Cat Just Then?", 14 Dec 2008
The second run of 'On The Go' was the last to be made by London Weekend Television. Among the new intake of writers were ex-doctors Rob Buckman and Chris Beetles, later to get their own series - the unfairly forgotten 'The Pink Medicine Show'. Graham Chapman, whose last contribution to the 'Doctor' show was 'Hello Sailor!' for 'In Charge', returned briefly to pen 'For Your Own Good', co-written with future 'Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy' writer Douglas Adams.

L.W.T. could have kept it going, but wanted it to finish on a high. Among the many funny episodes to be found here are 'I Love Paris...When I Get There', 'Loftus The Terrible' and 'War Of The Wards'.

Duncan and Dick would next be seen in the Australian spin-off 'Doctor Down Under'. It did not match the standard of the L.W.T. shows, the plots being mainly confined to the St. Barrabbas hospital.

In 1991, the B.B.C. reunited Waring, Stuart-Clark and Collier for the even-less successful 'Doctor At The Top'. Viewers did not want to see the old gang past their prime, and falling ratings led to it being axed after only seven episodes.

Fortunately for us, the L.W.T. shows are available for all to see, and the fact that they are still popular forty years later is tribute to their quality.

I very much enjoyed this second series. Sorry it is the last. The characters loveable as usual Dick, Loftus, Duncan, and the rest of the gang makes this series great as always.

sorry duncan and katherine did not marry in the last episode
