Although this is an early review, this fourth series of 'Doc Martin' has been shown on television so it can be commented on. It was a consistantly entertaining series on the whole but didn't quite match up to the first and second and was probably on a par with the third. As usual it was lovely to look at and the acting was pretty good across the board.
I still wasn't too sure about the introduction of one of the Doc's old flames Edith, but I can understand why they included her. It soon became annoying when she kept calling him 'Ellingham' and even at the end I couldn't make up my mind if I liked her or not. PC Penhale still isn't as good as PC Mark Mylow but generally it is full of likeable character's and I did think that the ending worked.
I have to admit though that although Martin Clunes is excellent as the Doc, I did find that his temper and aloofness was starting to wear a bit thin. I know that is the essence of what makes him tick but I actually found his being ignorant to very nice people a little tiresome and I thought it was overdone. Still, season four makes for very good family viewing and it is recommended.
