It's a show with a feel good factor Doc Martin but this Christmas Special contained very little seasonal cheer. Clunes has done a superb job with this show but while the Special is a nice way to pass two hours, and features the lovely Caroline Catz and characterful Ian MacNiece, it spends far too long on a story line about a lithium avoiding manic depressive who goes loopy. I appreciate these 'specials' are filmed in Summer when cast and crew are available but a Christmas special, maybe with winter themed comic set pieces was surely called for. Slightly odd filmed effect too here, like many 'specials' it has a slightly different production value - grainier, or it could be my tele. Not bad, but probably buy as a bargain re-sale from somebody. An opportunity slightly missed I feel.
