5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Viewing 9 Oct 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Received my shipment on Wednesday. Completed viewing all four series by Thursday evening, and am hooked. I worked 25 yrs. in healthcare, and Doc Martin reminds me of someone I use to work for. He was as much as a character as Doc Martin, with little to no people skills. The cast of village characters is also quite a hoot! The groupies walking together always laughing and mocking others; the pharmacist with the neck ring who has a secret love for Doc Martin; Doc's two who was always on the phone talking to her boyfriend and no employment skills and the other who developed a gambling problem; the plumber and his son, with about as much plumbing talent as you can put in a hatbox; Stephanie Cole's character as the aunt; the array of patients for Doc to care for, while trying to stay away from blood! Almost as if lost in a time warp. I recently heard that there is going to be a Series 5 with a Christmas special. I hope this is true. Nice to sit down to quality programming. Being from the USA, this is my first time being introduced to Martin Clunes. I loved Celia Imrie on the first program of Series 1. It would be nice to have her character reintroduced back into a Series 5.

4.0 out of 5 stars A consistantly good TV series 25 Feb 2010
By Mr. A. Whiteside TOP 1000 REVIEWER
This is a box set that is well worth having. It feaures all four series of Doc Martin and also a feature length episode. This is my take on each series;

SERIES ONE: A very consistant series with several memorable episodes. There are many likeable character's with Bert being one of my favourites. 4.5 out of 5.
SERIES TWO: The best series in my opinion with Pauline the receptionist a much better character than the frankly annoying Elaine from series one. 5 out of 5.
ON THE EDGE; Feature length episode that is meant to be watched after series two and before series three. It's OK but overlong and it convinced me that the shorter format is much better. 3.5 out of 5.
SERIES THREE: Another good effort but we say goodbye to PC Mylow and welcome PC Penhale which was a shame. Not as strong as the previous series with one story concerning Auntie Joan and a painter a bit too far fetched. 4 out of 5.
SERIES FOUR: Probably on a par with series three but still has a lot going for it. I thought that the ending worked well. 4 out of 5.

If you want a very good comedic drama then Doc Martin usually hits the mark. Gorgeous to look at with the Cornish coastline the true star. Very well acted throughout especially by Martin Clunes and Caroline Catz, this represents good value and overall I would give it four + stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Irritating 31 Aug 2010
The content is exactly as I expected and I am perfectly happy with it. What I find irritating is the fact that I can't watch any of the DVD without first having to sit through 5-10 minutes of advertising for other productions. After the first showing this becomes extremely tedious and it is on every one of the 8 DVDs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! watched the whole lot over 4 days! 22 Mar 2010
By Shell
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I absolutely love Doc Martin but only watched about 5 episodes on TV because it always clashed with something else. There is just something about the show that has a winning formula. I was so wanting to find out what was happening next that I just watched one after the other for about 4 days. Extreme I know but also neccessary. I just can't believe I've got to wait for ages to see the next installment .... torture us why dont you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Doc Martin 5 Nov 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I loved it!!!
Ive watched the tv series over the years, but with so many channels to choose and its all been a bit hit and miss with what episode Ive watched and when.
So to watch the whole series in one go( over a few nights), it was good.

Its about a London based doctor who is Haemophobic (not sure of spelling, but he reacts badly to blood).
He goes to live in a small Cornish village by the sea and its the usual escapades that you find on this type of series.
He has a very abrasive bedside manner and tells it as he sees it, without thought before speaking.
He gets involved with the local schoolteacher and its not the most romantic of relationships.

If you want a gentle comedy type series to ease any tensions, then this is it.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect gift 27 April 2011
By Mandy
I just got given this as a gift and i was over the moon. I loved this show when it was on TV and now I have it on DVD I have dived right in and watched almost the entire first series already!

I had forgotten how wonderful the series is. Funny, romantic and beautifully directed. Idyllic Country life at its best. Martin Clunes is, of course, flawless in his performance. He is a man who just seems to go from strength to strength. I cannot recommend this enough

5.0 out of 5 stars Doc Martin 11 July 2011
Absolutely brilliant! I have to watch all four series over and over again: funny, sad, extremely refreshing and deeply moving. Beware! it is addictive. Marin Clunes is a fantastic actor, being Doc Martin at his best could not be an easy task but he plays his part with an unbelievable ease. Let us not forget Caroline Catz who is extremely talented as well, very convincing actress who seems to be the perfect match for Doc Martin. I hope they will find to each other in the next series. I can't wait to see the end of the saga. Hopefully I won't have to wait too long. A must for everybody: even my husband had his eyes riveted to the screen!
