I got this book from Stockholm, where they sell it in many languages, in their main tourist shop. My five year old daughter loves it and likes to imagine that she, too, lives alone in a house without adult supervision! It is really lovely, featuring the original illustrations by Ingrid Nyman, which in my opinion serve the story much better than those by Lauren Child (which just remind one of Charlie & Lola). This book is the first in the Pippi series, introducing us to the characher, her new home, her pets and her new friends. The plot is funny and wacky - it just makes you curious to read the rest of the books in the series, which are, however, almost impossible to get in English if you wish to find them with the original illustrations by Nyman. In the case of Pippi, the illustrator is as important as the author, because these designs are Swedish classics and they have spawned a huge line of merchandising like clothes, fancy dress costumes, dollhouses, toys and school things, popular with many generations of Swedish children - they are instantly recognised by Swedes and still widely sold today. If you want to buy Pippi in any form, I recommend you get this one, the original, as there is simply no substitute!
