I've never been inclined to write an Amazon review before, but this set is worth having an opinion on. My daughter was given this by my Mum for her 7th birthday. Every night she's spent time getting out a different picture and carefully painting it. It's basically a painting-by-numbers, but there are a few things which differentiate it from its rivals. Firstly, the pictures are beautiful - very girly (princesses, ballerinas etc), but beautiful - and require a certain amount of sophistication as there are some small, slightly intricate, areas to fill in. It's not a daub-by-numbers. Secondly, the colours are gorgeous and are in individually numbered pots which is an inspired change from those annoying plastic pots which are clipped together and which fall over as soon as you rest your (usually plastic) paintbrush on the edge. This brings me neatly onto the next positive point, which is that the paintbrushes are of a really good quality; they don't need to be chucked in the bin after just one use, and will probably last for years. They also produce really good results!
The last point I should make is that the set itself is portable and easy to pack away, which is a Godsend in my very busy, and messy, house of four daughters. Everything packs away EASILY - no struggling for ten minutes to squeeze things back into the box and wondering how the manufacturers ever managed it - and whilst I won't attempt to describe the box(!), I will say that it stores away just like a large hardback book would. Bliss.
This may not be the sort of item that you'd buy your own child for a rainy day, BUT it really is special, and different. I'm going to buy one for my Goddaughter for her 5th birthday and would consider buying for my own children's best friends as extra-nice presents. Hope this helps!
